I'm seriously considering getting the racing stripes (not the typical stripes...the fatter ones), but am worried as it will drastically alter the car. see attached pics. input?
I'll take a closer look at the grille, but I'm pretty sure that the actual slats are chrome rather than just covers.

As for the stripes...that's a tough call. I like the look of the ones in the pic, but it's still hard to see. And I haven't seen one with stripes in person, so I can't say I have an official opinion on that. I do think there is a good chance they will take away from the sidewalk accents and such.

stripes...yeah I know what you're saying. I was dead set on the stripes until I had my father in law drive the car while I followed behind. I was struck by how gorgeous the car is in motion. I started thinking the stripes may uterly change the look...the chrome accents should be fine especially the scoop and I need to find something for the gas cap.

By the way I've had two offers to buy the car already, pretty cool...

Did you debadge the sidewalk yourself?

If it were me, I'd pass on the stripes after thinking about it...JMHO.

And no, I had the dealer take them off before delivery...as well as had them tint the windows. I've always been a bit weary of debadging my cars...I know it can be a diy, but still....

Sounds like a big change to swap the M5 for the MCS. Serious decrease in passenger capacity. From an M3 there's only marginally less room in the Cooper.
I wasn't looking particularly for the MCS Vert, it just happend to come into the picture at the moment.....

Room isn't a big issue for my family of 3, been driving it these past couple of days and I must say, the MCS fills my transportation needs, if not my HP needs , but then again, I have my P-Car for that.

Living in NYC, I'm looking for less parking stress, and the MCS fits that to a T

I believe that, I would think the Cooper would trump just about any other vehicle for city living. When I take it into Baltimore I see alot more Coopers than in the burbs.

Great looking MCSc "Sidewalk" indeed.
I'd love to have a chance to see "batmobile" in person.

btw, we will have a "run & brunch" event this coming Sunday, 1/13. It's going to a nice day (no snow, no rain), please come'n out, join us and motorin'.

Will you people please stop posting pics of your sidewalk!? It's getting really irritating... everytime I open this thread and start reading, I begin salivating and end up drooling all over my keyboard! I've already gone through a roll of paper towels...

Congratulations Marylander and everyone else on them fine Minis...

It's a matter of priorities.....cost being a big one for me. Fuel consumption and the environment were also important. When I think of the times i opened the M up it's a small number...I live in a metro area where it's just not safe. I suspect my home to wawa and home to work times will be the same or better (less stops for gas) and i get to put the top down! It's cool to see that others came to the same conclusion....gotta be more than coincidence

Me too! I always loved the E30 M3. I'd like to own a M3 in the future.

I am MUCH happier with my MCS than the E46 M3 as my daily driver. The Cooper at any speed is an enjoyable drive, while the M3 shines at full throttle acceleration. Sure I enjoyed pushing the M3 at those rare opportunities when there was no-one else on the road and I had a clear view around the corners, but the Cooper is just an everyday smile.

The new 335 coupe is certainly something to behold, but I wouldn't give up
my Cooper for one.

While the Cooper is considerably cheaper than the BMW, I really don't feel like I'm sacrificing much overall.

My daughter has named it the Batmobile, and I think it'll stick.

I've been lurking the forums a while picking up "advice", and wanted to say thanks, it's a great forum. Pictures attached.
Very Nice.....

Better on gas...I have a long commute. A very small car note.

I still wish I had the 335I though.

For those of you who don't live in the Northeast, substitute "7-11" for "Wawa" and you will understand...

Man, I miss the 'wa.

Welcome from a fellow Sidewalk owner. Here is ours:

We added a few personal touches immediately after picking him up:

The thread from when we introduced him:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=103143

A coincidentally, Jerseygirl also went from an M3 ('97 E36) to her '03 MCS, although it wasn't really planned. The MCS was supposed to just replace her '93 Passat for daily/winter driving, but after about a year of having to literally force herself to drive the M once in awhile, she decided it was time to let it go...

Dougal serves as more of our w/e car. He has barely 4K miles since we picked him up and is now safely tucked away into my garage for the Winter.

Oh yeah: Wawa FTW!

I wish I didn't love Wawa so much, and there wasn't one every freaking 2 miles. I must pass 6 or 7 on way home every night, and now they all sell gas, just no avoiding them, not to mention that's where I usually buy my lunch. Ian, if you want to get rid of those nasty Sidewalk seats, I would happy to trade my sweet gray spacecloths straight up, just because I'm a nice guy.

Welcome to NAM. A lot of former M3/BMW owners here!

I think stripes really set the car off.

My favorites are either the Viper:

That's PGTs car. I love the way his car looks, I'd try to model my car after his...but I love the chrome too much.

and the OEM ones:

You are; power. The econobox feel will start to wear thin pretty quickly.

there's no arguing the power drop, but power isn't everything in a vehicle...I think the "econobox" term is a bit of an exaggeration don't you think?

A good friend of mine says he'd rather be driving his JCW Cooper than his Carrera...go figure.

In the twisties, I find that the MCS is easier for a less-experienced driver to drive more quickly and accurately. At my last DE event, I passed a couple of Dodge Vipers... they would walk away from me on the straighter section of the course (1.25 miles or so), but I'd reel 'em right back in once they entered the twisty side (2 miles or so). I'd ride their bumper until the straight section came back up to us. Finally they let me pass in the middle of the twisty section and they fell out of my rear view mirror.

Add a pulley/intake/exhaust and a few suspension upgrades... you won't miss that M3 a bit (well... maybe a bit, but it's better than switching to a Nissan Sentra...)

It is funner to driver a slower car fast, then a fast car slow.

well said! much funner

I'll be waiting about a year to do those exact mods, but they seem very common and pretty easy to do?

marylander, you seem like my brother from another mother. btw, i've already had the dealer agree to debadge the sides on the sidewalk. i would have already purchased the pulley and the intake....but i'm committed to breaking in the car without mods first. funny how people think we'll miss the power....that's the whole point. i have the power now and rarely use it. i think it's easier to do what we've done when you've already had an M3. meanwhile, i'm still waiting to go into production
