R52 If I were to sell the MINI and get a new one
gl
Just FYI...
Understand if you have your heart set on black but I've got to tell you that the sparkling silver or pepper white turns all the heads. Mine 2-week-old Cabrio is a Cooper S/JCW/Sidewalk in pepper white and everyone says it is the PERFECT color. The car looks both classy and racy with lots of chrome and malt brown leather seats with white piping. Also the pepper white looks clean longer than darker colors...certainly better than black. Anyway...for what it is worth...just noted you have already ordered so never mind...fun in any color

On another topic, I spoke to the dealer (what does MA stand for anyway) yesterday and specifically asked him about ordering an 08. He told me that no one is ordering 08's in the US at this time. To which I responded that there appear to many people claiming to order them according to what I read on NAM. He replied that Mini is not going to start building and shipping 08's to the US until December time frame and he couldn't even tell me a date. So what's up with that? Is he full of $#!+? BTW, please don't shoot the messenger.
Sometimes they paint at the VDC if there was damage during transport.
Here's a kick in the head. I decided to do it and can't. Finally got a dealer to talk with me and it's a no go. Can't order until december according to this dealer. I can get something 'close' that's on it's way if I act fast - it's sparkling silver and not astro black and is automatic and not manual/lsd. Just about decided that's not close enough. So here's my three options:
1) do nothing and keep my current car which is nice but doesn't have everything I'd like to have now.
2) get a car that is 'close' to what I want but not exactly.
3) wait 3 whole months before I can even order what I want.
Seems like getting a new car should be easier than this

BTW, here's the spec on the car that's close that I could get:
Coop S Cnv USD 25,400.00

313 Power folding mirrors 300.00
405 Door mirror caps in chrome 150.00
473 Center armrest N/C
5AA Rear fog lamp 100.00

534 Automatic air conditioning N/C
550 On-board computer N/C
674 Harman-Kardon sound system N/C
Will I kick myself for getting something that isn't exactly? Probably.
I've debated on the colour for several days and the ss is a good colour (pictures might help me in this regard - nudge, nudge, wink, wink, does she go).
I currently have an automatic and kinda wish I'd got a manual but it's been so many years since I've driven a manual I might not like to every single day any more (something I've been considering and reconsidering too).
I really want NAVI since I'm traveling in unfamiliar haunts a lot more now but the idea of hardwiring a NAVI in my current car really scares the #$%# out of me - the truth be told.
Thanks for all that have read through me vascillating for the last several threads

It's tough but personally I would wait. Maybe if it were another dark color like BRG, but Sparkling Silver is so opposite from your first choice. Also I think a manual transmission adds much to the fun of driving a MINI. Actually this would be a bigger issue for me than the color.
Unless I am not understanding your post....I think your dealership is very wrong. I just placed my order and have been given a production number. Call the dealership back (or a different one) and inquire about the production date for the Converts -- its 9/1/07. The hard-top MC is slated to go into production in December or January.
Also to add.....I can see you being willing to switch colors - but from a manual to an automatic? ahh...yuck? I know, many people drive automatic, but if you want a manual its usually because you do not want an auto.
Anywho - can you clarify what your dealership said? you went there to order a 2008, per your previous posts. If one is on the way, its a 2007 (is this correct?). If that's correct than they must be thinking that the 2008 do not enter production until December - in which case my other post is spot on and your dealership is confusing the production dates of the hard top for the convert's......go get what you want !!

Yes, another car salesperson keeping the stereotype alive.
^ I believe it depends on the dealership. Each is given an allotment per month and if they use them all, they're SOL.
So...if you don't want to wait, souds like you'll have to find yet another dealership.

Tried the one's within 300 miles. That leaves Memphis, Nashville, and Baton Rouge within roughly 500 miles (a little far for someone with formations an on calls). Anybody comment on the order/delivery route ala Hamptons etc?
I am all in favor of getting what you want. Color is one thing - SS is a great color, especially on the cabrio - but to go from manual to auto is a big jump.
I'd wait and get exactly what you want. It's your money, you already have one good MINI, just enjoy that one until you can place the order for the one you really want.
Also, I didn't say this in the original thread when you asked for opinions but I think it would be nutso to trade in a MINI with a few typical MINI quirks for another MINI of the same generation that is likely to experience the same quirks. I'd go with an 08 and hope for no (or least different) quirks.

True ML, I'm letting myself in for the same quirks maybe. But not all the cars have the door problem. What I think it comes down to is getting the NAV and Leather I was too cheap to get the first time.
Thinking about replacing the mini (see other thread with similar name) but finally got the idea of replacing it with a new mini - here's my spec for everyone's consideration:
S cabrio
Black
Sidewalk
driving lights
manual (have the teach the wife to drive it)
lsd
navi
winter
convience
Any sugestions, additions, deletions.
Get the JCW Tuning Package!
wish I could get the oak dash in it

When I got mine it was a dealer install thing and I thought someday I might go in and have it done. I'm thinking if I wait just a little I could get the JCW if the budget allows (ie saving up some). If I keep my BRG then I might go get some of it bolted on (I guess they still do that)
I'd go with "wait 3 whole months before I can even order what I want."
Would driving your current car be unbearable for 3 months? Based on your first option of keeping the car, I don't think it would be.
If you get a car that is not what you want, you may be back here again soon in the same situation...looking to get a newer car to get a few things that you didn't get when you bought. That will cost you a lot more in the long run.
Drive your current car for the next 3 months and abuse the heck out of it. This way you can have a lot of fun with it and not worry about longevity because you'll have a new one soon.

OMG thats a horrible idea. First problem with it is ethics. I mean would you be able to sleep at night knowing you just destroyed a car and sold it to some unsuspecting fool who thought they were getting something good? Second problem is the MINI brand. Don't we care about minis? If you trash one and put it out on the market then someone buys it and gets turned off of MINI's forever. I say respect the car you have. If you buy something new Great. But love your mini because the next driver deserves nothing less.
