Filthy!

Yesterday, while I was showing my friend my mini with the top down, I noticed on my windscreen looked a little off color. There was a brownish hue that was evident in the direct sunlight. I rubbed my finger on it and found my finger smudged with dirt. I made a mental note that when I would clean in the next morning.

Fast foward to this morning.

I got myself a damp cloth and wiped started wiping down my wind screen. HOLY CRUD It was absolutely filthy!! I had no idea it could get so dirty, but in hindsight, all the road dust has to collect somewhere. My white cleaning cloths came out an ugly, ugly black after I was done cleaning (a small amount of car wash detergent in a bucket of water, applied with a damp cleaning cloth).

Lesson learned: I should probably wipe down the wind screen once a month. Or more? Any one else have cleaning tips for the windscreen, or cleaning suggestions?

I use 303 Aerospace Protectant on my so the UV's don't eat it alive. I do wash my with just car soap and let air dry.
Just think how much of that dirt would have ended up on you and your dash if that windscreen hadn't stopped it.

This sounds like a dirty thread to me.

Making mental note to coat wind screen with the 303 (thanks for that tip) and keep it clean, along with the usual washing of my own hair.

I dont have a windscreen...but that only means that I have to clean the rear seats more often- lots of dirt gets back there!

Hmmm, I just took mine out and hosed it off? I figured it's been rained on a few times, a bit more water wouldn't hurt it.

Hmm... I keep seeing 303 being brought up as making great stuff to seal water / protect against UV. I really should get around to ordering that stuff.

It looks like ThomB says he's been safe hosing his down as well. That definitely would be easier than hand washing it with a bucket and cloth!

You can order 303 stuff from www.Detailersparadise.com or directly from their website.
I use their Aerospace Protectant, Cleaner and Fabric Guard. I also have their wiper fluid tablets and their wiper blade restore wipes. Geeze, I sound like a 303 commercial.
Hosing it off will work for that dirt that isn't greasy or oily, otherwise you will need some sort of surfactant to remove the soil.
