You are crazy...

Actually 15000 on todays oils is not far fetched. There is plenty of material on this site and many others for you to draw your own conclusions. This topic has definetly been hashed out a time or two... I'd say use the search function...

Unless you take it to a MINI dealer the counter WILL NOT be reset. So you could still take it to a dealer for your "free" oil change service. Just be careful where you take the car for the oil change. Most don't recommend the "Jiffy Lube" type of places because of the potential of problems. I am assuming you have an S from your gallery. They are a bit easier to change the oil on. I would suggest you do it yourself just to get an idea on the procedure and it can save you a bit of money.

Personally, unless the factory service program has lapsed, I would not reset the counter. Just keep track of when you changed the oil.

You can buy a reset service with OBDII from Mini Mania. If your car is under warranty you might go for the service to have other mech. ck's. I drive my S 100 miles per day and while under warranty would chge my own oil and filter every 5000 miles. Today's oil's certainly can last the 15,000 miles, but if you intend to keep as I do beyond 100,000 miles error on the cheap insurance of 5000 mile change. The oil plug is a 13mm and the oil filter is a 36 mm (NAPA or Snap on tool's or Mini Mania). Get a cheap set of ramp's from Walmart etc . and you are in business. It's also a good idea to ck your plug torque as these on the S tend to loosen. Torque setting's are 20 foot pound's. Torque wrench and long extension plug socket approx. 30.00 @ advanced auto part's. Getting to know your car by doing the little thing's gives you additional pleasure 's of ownership. Just my opinion! JGF

I change the oil on my S every 4K-5K miles -- If you take it somewhere be sure to tell them NOT to reset the timer -- that way the dealer will at least pay for an oil service once in a while.

Good luck

You can reset the counter yourself (once you're out of maintenance). http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f..._faq_reset_cpu
