Having gotten a quote of $800 (!) from MiniNYC for replacing the windshield, wondering if anyone has used a shop in/around NYC to install an aftermarket one? I now have two cracks: one a little chip and certainly from a rock, the other a long crack from the bottom corner of the drivers side that they say they won't cover under warranty. They say my 2003 MC isn't effected by the stress fracture issue on older models

Any info greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you're getting gouged with NYC prices (by a reputably crummy dealer ... see the dealer ratings).

My service guys -- MINI of Peabody (MA) -- told me that they'd do a MINI windshield for about $400 (all OEM parts). Maybe you should consider driving up here for a long weekend to get your windshield replaced. It's only 3 hours from NY and Boston is beautiful in the spring. Just a thought.

Your insurance doesn't cover a windshield replacment?

Alas, it doesn't seem to be a stress crack... and full glass coverage is very expensive for the MINI in brooklyn.

I'm waiting for a call back from another dealer, otherwise I'll see if I can find a place around here that will do it, or maybe go for a jaunt up to Boston

Any word - pro or con - on aftermarket windshields?

$800 windshield?

Should not be more than about $400. Try Nassau County.

Good luck!

Well, Hassel (where I bought my MINI) is better, not quite $400, but close. I need them to look at some other issues, so it looks like I'm headed out to Freeport. They've been great, BTW, in case anyone is looking for a dealer in New York.

Nomonstersinme: unfortunately, full glass coverage on the MINI where I live in Brooklyn is over $500 per year So unless I go through more than one windshield a year, I'll keep paying out of pocket.

Thanks for the input all.
