I agree with Stove... very nice.

I am surprised that Cooper Flags or Car Vogue, Moss or some of the other retailers haven't adapted this idea, and sold it. I think a lot of people would love it.

Link to magnetic sheets available online ($2.29 per foot for 12" wide white), from MINI2. Their shipping starts at $5, so I think I'll just go to one of the many sign shops around here. Can't wait to do this!

I'm sure you can, if you really hunt around. The site that I linked to has seven different colors; surely somewhere you can get magnetic material in speckled silver, or whatever constitutes "shadow" stripes.

And what's more fun than a good, long, unauthorized web search at work?

Joe, I'm not one that favours bonnett stripes. But you have impressed me, (I like 'em) and by all the posts a lot of other MINI owners do too. WHAT'S NEXT???

I will set a price next week after I get a roll of the material. Sorry I don't have anymore info right now. I plan to also test and develop a size to fit the MC. The current design works only for the MCS model. (fins4284 -please keep us posted when you sell on e-bay. would like to give the magnetic stripes a try. how much will you sell them for? )

Wow!...more fantastic stripes! I gotta do this...usually my IB/W is in stealth mode, but it'd be great to have stripes as an option. Now, FireAnt's stripes look really glossy, which was hard to tell on the white version. Is the magnetic material glossy?...that's be a good look.
Another question...anybody seen the MiniMania stripes? They're set farther out than the BMW versions, claiming to be a "more traditional look." I've never seen these anywhere else. Placement would be a factor in dealing with the length, edges, and probably adhesion-factor of magnetic stripes.

Looks great!
How did you apply the black stripes and trim edges? you mention "vinyl" but I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean by this.
You mean like vinyl paint, or actual material?
Any details would be great...

Anybody want to split the cost of some of the black vinyl?

It's only available in 24" widths from the link mentioned above. 12" is plenty for one set of stripes. 6 feet + s/h would cost about $33, so if someone wants half, I'll send it to them for $16 plus shipping.

PM me if interested.

jds: I've found the white is slightly glossy, although not as much as the factory stripes. I don't know how they would look waxed, I probably won't try as they look great now, IMO.

As for placement, I'm keeping mine closer to the middle, similar to the factory ones. This seems to keep them flat against the bonnet. The further I've positioned them out, the harder they were to lay flat. I didn't make them long enough in the first place to truly try the classic look.

My stripes to me look more like the Cooper stripes than the S stripes. I believe the S stripes may be slightly curved, as they look a bit different head on than my stripes.

Calvin: I'm not sure if you mean my car or FireAnts car, but mine uses a roll of 1/4" wide vinyl for the black trim edges. Cost about $3.99 at Pep Boys. The company name is Prostripe and the product is called Pinstripes High-Performance Automotive Striping. Probably meant for use down the side of a car. To apply it I simply rolled it out and stuck it down where I wanted it, it only took about 10 minutes.

Thanks again everyone for your comments, it is really encouraging!
Have fun!!!

~Joe

2 unique pictures of my (currently very dirty) MINI valiantly defending her parking spot, and sporting her magnetic stripes!!! I've not taken any pictures of her at night before!

Brilliant, you guys...just a fantastic idea. I've been thinking of stripes down the back of the MCS...this may do the trick. Any pointers?

TIA...

Just placed my order -- $61.25 Buy It Now Option (incl. Shipping and Insurance). Beats permanent stripes at high $$$. I hope they look as good as what's been posted.

A thought after purchasing the stripes: When looking at the stripes from the side, is the vinyl so thick that you will see black? It may not be noticeable on a dark MCS, but on a DS or lighter color??? Or am I being overly obsessive?

I don't think you will notice any black down the sides. They are really pretty thin and most people will never think they are magnetic until you show them.
I think you'll love them! I look forward to seeing pics of them on your car later this week. I really enjoy mine and have had alot of fun trying on all the diferent designs I've made so far. I really like the checkered flag ones I made today, but with all the time I put into them I had to put them up forsale too.

joes475 that is a genious idea. Perfect solution as the stripes seem overpriced. I dont recon they would ever get nicked coz who goes around checking if mini stripes r magnetic or not ..... you just dont think about it. Anyway if some sad fool does nick them then i think they deserve them for bothering
