Retro fit heated front seats??????

So, I was wondering, since there is wiring for alarms and other things already incorporated into the wiring looms of the later model minis... does the wiring for heated front seats exist and can they be retro fit?

If all the wiring is there the adition of the switches and heating elements to the seats should be a, relatively, minor install.

Has anyone done this?

An inquiring mind wants to know!

I'm interested in the reverse operation (taking them out), so I guess I'm in the same boat as art. Can someone find the official Mini file on this?

I have done it. Go on motoringfile to the DIY section and download the retrofit instructions. It took me about 4 hours to do. You must have some heated seats (eBay is a good place to look) and the retrofit kit from MINI which has all the wiring and switches (about $150).

PS PM me if I can help you figure anything out

Is it possible to add a heating element to existing seats? I have done this in other cars, but someone told me the Mini couldn't be retrofitted and I'd need new seats. I can't back it up so I'm searching here and found this thread. Sorry if it's something obvious...:D

I purchased my 02 MCS with leather seats last June from a non-MINI multi brand dealership - you know BMW, Infinity, etc etc. I wanted heated seats and we agreed upon a price for a retrofit as part of the sale deal. I had it written into the sales contract. I dropped off the car when I was going out of town so it could be done while I was away. I got a call from my salesman saying that the way MINI puts the seats together the heater retrofit couldn't be done and they'd give me a refund on that part of our deal. Hum, not part of MY deal. I call MINI. They said it can be done, but would be very expensive. I ask $$$ they said about 3000! Not likely I'll be getting a warm butt! I did, however, manage to get the sales dealership to give me 17" chrome Kazera KZ-V rims with Dunlop runflats instead of the heated seats after I pointed out MINI can do the retrofit (for a price) and that they sold me a car with 15" rims without a spare tire, not safe says I. Everytime I think about my cold butt I look at those beautiful rims and smile!

Those are some really sweet rims that you got TanchoGirl. Way to stick the dealer to their end of the bargain.
