OK, I can open and close the sun roof. It tooks weeks but I got that part down (just kidding).

But how can I just pop open the back end of the sunroof. Currently to get the to just pop up the back, I have to open the sun roof (not all the way), then close it , then it stops with the back end up. Then I can close the sun roof all the way if I choose.

I just want to get one button just to have the back end pop up that inch.

I'm tired so I don't know if I'm explaining this well. Can it be done?

Thanks.

instead of sliding the button backwards to open, and forwards to close... push it straight up vertically. This should do the trick... it does for me!

PS I'm tired too, I know what you meant, I just hope my answer made sense!

yeah, push it like you would a normal push-button. (straight up) to close, just push forward like you would normally close it.

Push the button UP instead of to the FRONT or BACK. In other words, push the button in the direction you want the sunroof to move. I love that feature. Makes perfect sense!

hi i wanted to ask the sunroof owners 2 questions and didnt want to start anyother post. caus
you folks know who you are...

I have read online somewhere, that the sunroof when open is not that great
to have when your driving at speed. Would you please comment on that?

2. Do you notice any structural weakness in the handling department compared to a solid
roof car?
thanks for your time

Scoutd: the main "handling" difference with the roof is the addition weight (I believe about 60 lbs.). It's not necessarily less stiff (the MINI is really stiff to begin with).

I personally still like my sunroof and I'm happy to have it on my daily driver. I also autocross. The sunroof definitely improves the liveability of the car.

#1 It depends on what you mean by "at speed"... At 130 MPH the wind noise does seem to be just a little distracting

I've noticed that my MCS is solid as a rock with the sunroof open or closed no structural problems at all.

I'd say the sunroof wide open is noisy above 45 mph, although IMHO this noise goes down a bit if you lower the side windows about 1-2 inches. I have cruised at 65 mph like that, and it is quite noisy but acceptable for a while - though not for long stretches. With just the rear cracked it is far less noisy, at a level maybe acceptable for longer stretches. It is still distinctly louder than when when closed. Some people have mounted wind deflectors which has been reported to reduce the noise level with the fully open SR.

Thanks. It would have been nice to get that 1 hour Mini training most people got. When I got my Mini I wasn't even looking at cars. I just drove my, saw them, loved them and 3 hours latter went home (peper white, xeon lights, fog lights, Auto Climate, Sports seats, Sun Roof), it was perfect. But no class.

For the noise, it's lounder then any sun roof I've had at 45+ mph BUT it's also the biggest sun roof I've had. And I love it.

Wow, I had to run out and try that push up thing. I never knew that before. I always bugged me to open a little, then close to get to pop up position. Isn't MCO great!!!

A while back there was a accident in which a MINI flipped and slid quite a distance on its roof. The sunroof shattered but the car's structure was amazingly left intact.
If any of you recall Marcus's accident, there was not an inch of that car left undented, yet the structure remain sound and they walked away fairly unharmed.

it's ok. I too can admit that I discovered the just open the back bit a notch button. I thought it was only a sliding switch and was not also a button!

As a buyer, I was into all things MINI, and when I got my CD w/ MINI info, I went through the whole thing. They don't leave out much- and the sunroof info was all there, plus a couple of other things which were bothering me. For instance, I was confounded at first by the defrost function only being 'hurricane force' when pushed until I checked out that if you keep the defrost button pushed for several seconds, you can have the fan on the windscreen at any speed.

greatgro,

MINI sent me mine. Slip it in the old computer and it walks you thru the car. Or you can select things alphabetically. If you can't find one PM me and I'll send you mine. But you gotta send it back.

The DVD I got with my MINI is great since I didn't get the 1 hour lesson. I learned quite a few things and some features which I need to have turned on (follow-me-home headlight setting). Also on the alphabetical index are links to watch several of the MINI commercials such as the one with the bulldog "getting acquainted" with a MINI. Really clever.
