I don't have a front plate on my car as required by law in Colorado. When I found out it costs $50.00 for a plastic bracket to hold the front plate I said no thanks, I'll take my chances. But I do have the plate in the boot just in case I ever get stopped. Then I can make up some crazy story as to why my plate is not on the car. I may be "breaking the law" but it seems very petty to me and I am betting I never get caught or if I do I can talk my way out of a fine!!

Wow, so the dealer charges you for the plate holder? A few zip ties through the plastic grill is a quick cheap alternative fwiw.

Ultimately it is just about making a vehicle identifiable from the front and back, whether its for red light cams, security cams, law enforcement, or any other use, and I figure that the states that haven't bothered making it manditory will at some point. As it is the only options are to fight to have the code changed(or not adopted in the first place), find an acceptable solution for mounting the plate, or flaunt the law and be willing to pay when caught.

I admit since I live in GA and my car is registered in IL I originally wasn't going to put the front plate on but 1) My car alrady had the bracket installed and I felt the plate was less ugly than the naked bracket and 2) I was afraid I'd loose the plate or forget to put it on when I did go back to IL.

Yes, my dealer quoted me $50.00 for the plate holder. But you made me think, maybe I should call the sales manager and ask them to give me one. I bought my Mini used and the previous owner must have taken it off or didn't have one. I think for as much money as I spent on my used Mini and have also bought accessories (floor mats and mirror covers) from them, they could afford to give a good customer a plate holder. It can't cost them more than $25.00. And I would think it's in their best interest to keep the customer happy at such a small price. I'm going to get one (free)!!!!!

I think most of us Namsters agree that a front plate isn't the most attractive thing on our Minis. But in Missouri, it's the law to display both plates and I just go along with the law. I'd rather not pay any tickets over something so minor as not displaying a front plate. I can use that "saved" money to buy my Mini some cool accessories!!

the way i see it, at about 6 bucks a month to run no plate, it's just as if I took my car for a wash once a month a 6 bucks. Keeps the car lookin good . ordered the gomini one though since I don't want to deal with this anymore and can't wait for moss.

You know what I would do now....once you get the plate holder install it take a picture of it. Take in the receipt in with the tickets tell them you did not know that law and your Mini did not come with a front plate holder.

They shoud work with you, or I shoud say it is worth a shot.
