Feeling lucky

Hi all,

Just had to relate this. I had just finished washing my MINI and took my son out on the "drying" run. We use any excuse to motor and in this case, it was to dry the parts of the car we can't reach, like the under carraige.

Anyhow, the run typically takes us onto a highway for a few miles and then backroads home. It's dusk, headlights are on and we're nearing our exit on the highway. I'm in the slow lane with a SUV next to me in the fast lane. On the shoulder ahead is a car with his flashers on. Just as we're getting ready to pass the guy on the shoulder, he decides to pull out into my lane. I'm going about 60-65 and I hit the horn a couple of times. He doesn't see me and continues to enter the lane. There was no room to brake without slamming into the rear of the guy and just enough of a gap between him and SUV so I punched it and went around Mr. Shoulder guy and got back into the slow lane. Yikes! I'm glad the MCS is quick and nimble otherwise my holidays, and possibly others, would be very sad. I also realize how mushy my snow tires feel compared with my regular tires. So...if Clint Eastwood were to ask...Yeah. I'm feeling lucky.

This is a great example of how a car with excellent handling is safer than one with a better crash test rating but worse handling. Regardless of what the crash tests say, I have yet to find out out how a MINI performs in an accident numerous times when I've been able to avoid the accident in the first place.

Accident avoidance is never discussed regarding car safety reports - the MINI should get a consistant 10 out of 10 for it! Well done and be safe!

My other forum is a Ford Panther Chassis forum.

(Crownvics, Grand Marquis, Town Cars. they all hate small cars (but they are also all big fat asses who drive recliners instead of cars)
