R50/53 One year report
Well, almost a year, 16k. I had the coolant tank replaced and a cold start problem corrected. That's it. No windshield cracks or any damage. No creaks, whistles, rattles, sunroof problems or surging. As a matter of fact, this is the most trouble free car I've owned to date. I've changed the oil every 3k,( old habits die hard). The dealer, Downtown MINI in Orlando, has been a joy to deal with. Anyone else enjoying this kind of Motoring? I hope most of us are. I was worried about buying an early build date, 1/02, but I couldn't be happier with this car. Motor On, MB

I have 6 months and 14k, with oil changes/inspections at 1500, and every subsequent 3K, and tire rotations/balance at each 5K-- same old habits for me too. I asked the technician to put velcro on the air deflector of the sunroof, and that stopped a little rattle (I found out about this fix on minicooperonline; it worked like a charm; the technician had never heard of it, and he has been doing it for others ever since). I had the engine computer update, and the sunroof adjusted. That's it. No other problems. No rattles, surging, or damage. It's started every time, and has been a joy to drive. The service at the dealer has been outstanding, and the MC has been the most trouble free car that I have owned. So I hope this is helpful for potential buyers.
One caveat (for the umpteenth time, I know) is that I would recommend the sports seat over the standard seat for comfort.
Also I would suggest that you not buy a Mini if you are starting a new venture (business, job, marriage, family) that will require alot of time, because these ventures will likely suffer while you are off driving for the first year (at least I hope it levels off after a year; I had hoped it would level off after a week, then a month, then with winter, then after 6 months; I hear there is a 12 step program offered for mini owners who have become addicted to their cars-- of course no one has made it to any of the scheduled meetings-- they leave their houses, and then the sunroof opens and there's open road to drive).
Call me: Addicted in Columbus (well actually am headed toward Indianapolis from Cincinnati, and then will head back to Columbus-- and I just was going to pick up a quart of milk...)
