Go to this site MINI LINKS and then go to the 'mini link' button and then look for the check list. Pretty good list of everything you need to look for.

The Mini break-in period, from most all accounts I have read, is fairly standard at about 1,000-1,500 miles. In my case, fuel economy did not start off that high, but got much better after about 1,500 miles as well. I'm not the only person to see that phenomenon. Speedometer reads faster than you are actually traveling in many cases as well. Otherwise, it's best to prepare yourself for a lot of smiles (both from yourself and other drivers) and frequently being asked "what kind of car is that?" by complete strangers.

I would think the first thing to look for is a full tank of gas and some twisty roads.
