R50/53 Speeding ticket
Speeding ticket
I was running late for school, and after I made a right turn I went WOT in 1st, and into the middle of 2nd, I come up to a stop sign, make a left, then all the sudden I hear a siren and I see a Crown Vic right behind me. I pulled over and he told me i was doing 64 in a 30
. Now there is no way I was going anywhere near that speed, I was only in the middle of 2nd gear. I'm not paying 325 bucks for some b/s ticket. Now I've heard picking a calibration ticket from the police station, would this help?

Do you have a lot of tickets in the last couple years? If not, depending on your county, you could just go to court and plea no contest...they may get rid of the ticket or charge you a much smaller fee. When I was getting tickets left and right, the first 3 were dropped, then they charged me $70 each one. I was actually going to fight one of them, because I didn't actually do anything, but when I went to court, they only charged me $50 vs lawyer fees etc.
What state are you in?
34 over the speed limit (i.e. 64 in a 30) gets you a trip to station, and your car impounded - in Texas atleast. How did you get away with just a ticket?
Anyways...sorry about your bad luck, tickets are NEVER fun
. Depending on your previous ticket record, it usually is not worth it fighting it in court as the system is very hard to beat, in my opinion.
I remember reading a thread on NAM from a long time ago (probably sometime last year) about a guy who got his speedometer re-calibrated and it showed that his speed readout was incorrect. He brought the documents to court and got the fine lowered accordingly. I am not sure if this would apply to you, but I thought it might help.
Good luck!

From my experience...the last thing you want to do is fight it. You don't want to actually go to trial. When you request a court date (it should be one of the options on the ticket), you go to a pretrial. You plea no contest, which means I am not fighting this or admitting guilt. They then look at your record and will tell you not to do it again. They may fine you, but it will likely be much less than the actual ticket. Pretrials take about 15 to 20 minutes of waiting for your turn, and about 1 minute of standing in front of the judge.
I have done this with every ticket I have gotten. Some of them were 60 in a 30, running a stop sign, 80 in a 40, 90 in a 60...(I was young and stupid). They dropped most of them and the most I ever paid was $75 + traffic school (do it online). I was 18 and 19 at the time...with an obvious speeding problem. This was in Miami, so I don't know about where you live.
The other option would be to get a traffic lawyer. They will probably send you plenty of mail without you wanting them to, since your ticket is public record. They will usually ask $50 and you don't have to do anything but wait until they fix it for you.
Good luck. Don't pay that ridiculous amount for a ticket...especially a BS one.

34 over the limit? Suck it up and pay the fine or don't do the crime unless you can pay the fine. Lots of innocent folks on the street. Take it to a track
I really do not understand what the complaining is about. Be glad you don't live in VA ... 34 over gets you for Reckless driving.

Lucky you don't live in Hawaii.
Speeding tickets STAY on your driving record for 55 years based on a new Hawaii law passed.
We have no community service option, no traffic school (online or in person), and about 3000+ speeding or traffic tickets were given out last MONTH alone.
We have some stretches of freeway where the speed limit is 45 mph and a bunch that are 50.
And we have no track or motorsports venue on my island. Might as well just ride a bicycle (probably get a speeding ticket for going over 50!).
So if you visit please take care and monitor those speeds.

Over the last 10 years I have recieved 3 speeding tickets on the NYS Thruway and have beat all three. The last one was over 6 years ago so things may have changed but I would never plead guilty to a speeding ticket.
Go to court and ask for a PBJ or some mercy. Do not pay the ticket and fine because this will not only stay on your driving record but your insurance driving record for up to 5 years. Some people in here don't own a MINI and apparently walk on water. Sometimes the track is not around when you feel an urge, you should feel bad for being human. HAHA!
The moral of the story...Dont Speed. IT doesnt matter how fast you were going. You still broke the speed limit. Just go to traffic school(if you can) and dont worry about it. It maybe worth a shot to setup a court date. If the cop doesnt show, then your ticket is thrown out. However, if he does show up...well then your getting the ticket.

A Cooper S will not do 64 mph in second gear, much less halfway through second gear. Besides, I personally clocked a Snap-On toolbox at 96 mph with a radar gun once. I swear to my dying day that the toolbox was sitting still, but it couldn't have been because radar is infallable.
Fight it. Get a lawyer and have him lead the cop's testimony to reflect only one gear change (therefore 2nd gear), then show the "speed in gears" chart to show that the engine would be over redline and over the rev limiter at that speed. That should be GAME OVER. If not, get the transcript and hit them on appeal.
I got ripped off once for 42 mph when I was really doing 35. I had just been blown off the road by a 280ZX Turbo who probably WAS doing 42 (or more). I paid them their pound of flesh, but now that I'm 25 years older and wiser I would have fought it.
Best of luck...I hope you prevail.

68 MPH depending upon tires
Even assuming its an 05+ car ...
However, the problem with the argument, although probably valid, is that the police officer has no idea what gear your in. So you go to court and say "but your honor, I was only in second gear and here is are the references that show a MCS is incapable of doing 64 in second gear"
The officer says ... I got him on RADAR at 64
While the honus is on the prosecution to prove you guilty, this is a case of them believing you. Totally subjective as you have no proof whatsoever you were in second.
How do you think that will play out?
Sure it will. I wouldn't recomend doing it, but it's possible.
If you were caught in a 30mph zone, it was probably a residential street. Don't be stupid and put the lives of other's in danger. And blaming it on the speedometer isn't going to work. Even if it was off, it wouldn't be that big of a difference. Maybe 60 vs. 63.
If you were in CA, your car would have been impounded and you would have been arrested.
With the Midlands it could hit 64MPH@redline in 2nd if equipped with 16" tires.
