Agreed !!! I inherited a nasty little long haired one when I moved in with my Girlfriend. He's Super cute when he's not snarling or tormenting the cat.
No way.. no different than any other breed, there's good ones and bad ones just the same. I happen to own 2 long haired chihuahua's who are awesome dogs... one is extremely smart and trainable, loves to do tricks and perform but doesn't like strangers (the fact that he's trainable means he is controllable with strangers)... the other is the most lovable, silly little guy you'd ever meet---he's just a ding dong..we knick named him Scooby... Anyway, to make a point, small dogs (especially chihuahuas) get a bad rap similar to the "dangerous" breeds.

I couldn't disagree more. Different breeds have different temperments. I don't really think that this is up for debate. I've "met" no less than 20 Chihuahuas and they were all detestable little snap-jaws. But some people like them, and thats cool. I just can't stand them. We have two Welsh Corgis and have yet to see them yap or snarl at a stranger. Saying that all breeds are alike is silly. And saying that there are no dangerous breeds is just wrong.
My mother rescued a 5-year old Chihuahua about 12 years ago. He was a playful, fun little guy until he got old and achey. Then, he was very cranky about being lifted, because his little joints were sore.
I was his dogsitter when my parents traveled, and learned to use a large bath towel whenever I had to lift him. Once he knew what the towel meant, whenever he saw me walking with it, he'd start to snarl. I thought he was funny, not mean.
He's gone now, but was very much a part of the family...

Oh and I have a Chihuahua and a Chihuahua-Jack Russel mix. Great dogs, sweet and loyal to the end.
I know its sad, but if it comes down to me or the dog I think ill have to take the dog.
I will second the third the calls to get a Rabies shot. Rabies is deadly, and by the time someone has symptoms, it is too late. The only prevention is the shots. And the poster about testing the animal is right, you cannot test a live animal. The only time they can tell is during the post moterm.
If you cannot find the dog owner to prove the dog is up to date on vaccines, get the shots just in case. The alternative is....well....really bad.......
BTW, fantastic story of the kind that could NEVER be made up.
