R50/53 What security do you have for your MINI?
Come on all of you, why do we all need an alarm at all? I had a VW Jetta stolen and they just took it for a joy-ride and totaled the car. Nothing inside was stolen..my golfclubs were still in the trunk... SO what happened? That's why we all buy auto insurance, right? The insurance company cuts you a check, you're upset for awhile ,you might be out a small amount of $$ and then you buy a NEW MINI ,better second time around...km

What did they take? you might ask. A 4th gen. 60gig ipod. Left the Passport escort radar detector suctioned to the windshield.
How much was the damage? you might ask. $7,900. Thats one glove box replacement, new front seat covers, drivers side window, back window, the theifs missed with the first brick and put a divet into my roof, and the list goes on. I'd say that the additional savings to my insurance company qould have been quite a lot. I can't complain though. Insurance looks at vandalism differently, and it doesn't raise your rates. A new interior for $250? I guess that's the silver lining.
The reason I'm searching through this thread is to find some information about mini security, so that if there is a next time, if they decide to come back, I will at least be alerted to the destruction of my baby, and possibly catch whoever is trying to put him back in the body shop. Any recommendations? Is it worth it for a viper alarm, or just stick with OEM?
After reading this thread i decided to sell the mini because i dont want it stolen while in my posession. Thanks for everyone who made me realize a stolen mini would be to much for me to handle.
J/K, my alarm is my insurance, but to whoever mentioned the ground that would work because mine was loose and i spent a few hours trying to start my car, except that i put it in first and got it rolling and popped he clutch out and it worked fine till i turned it off again.
Para ordnance warthog .45 acp is my next security investment.

I want to get one but just with the grip extension that gives it 2 extra rounds at 12 total. Post pics of laser sight.
Since we're talking about Glocks, I would go for the fully auto machine Glock 18 variant. That will end any attempt at breaking in and add a lil pizazz just for kicks.
But seriously, what security system you get depends on your geographic location. In my area, we get a lot of crackheads and druggies who will break into cars for just about anything if it's in plain view. They go after the easier targets first, starting with older, slimjim friendly cars. Most newer cars, they won't even bother if there's nothing within immediate reach. However, if there's a box or a purse sitting in the backseat, they'll just throw a brick thru the window and be done.
I have an 80s Toyota hatchback that's been stolen/broken into 3x in the past year. They got in like clockwork, as if they had a key - no damage to the locks or ignition. The first time they took it on a two block joyride, left it in the middle of the street and stole nothing but a car freshener. I was left with $300 in parking tickets and towing fees. I wised up and bought a club for the steering wheel. They wised up and stole the battery. Now, I park it in my designated spot and leave my other, newer alarmed car out on the street. Everything's been gravy since.
As you can see, there really is no beating them. If they don't get what they want, you only anger them and that usually means they key up the whole car.

A+ rating.

Many locks on older Japanese cars are really low end. After a few years of use, they get out of shape and can be force to unlock with little difficulty using similar style keys. My friend's old Nissan key worked on my Toyota truck... and vice versa. It's all in the family.

There was also a time I locked myself out with the keys in the ignition. Called AAA, the guy came and slim jim'd it in no more than 10 seconds.
I know this is an old post but its still a good one
I am looking into this one:
http://www.autobiometrics.com/store/...ers/cat_1.html
I found a company that makes biometrics for high end cars (Bentley, Lamborghini, bugatti etc..) that utilizes the retinal, voice recognition and fingerprint ID AS WELL AS immobilizes the thief for up to 1/2 hour AND calls the police.
the price was around $30k also, but if you own a $100k+ vehicle its worth it.
Since they claim that it immobilizes the thief, then there must be some kind of stun probe in the seat or backrest. ohhhh the mess to be cleaned!!!!
