As for the JCW intake, I'm not sure how many people consider that "aftermarket". I don't. When you look at the CARB site, it's listed under "BMW Group".

ALTA has recently gained CARB certification, from what I've heard.

People could. They would be wrong, but they are entitled to their opinions. And actually I do race to work every day. Anyone who has seen me drive can attest to that.

make sure not to go run off the road! and thats good that you think people are wrong, but people all jumping on a bandwagon and calling a car rice is silly, esp when they made sure to use the highest quality products they could find(try to find a CF wing for the mini, that actually fits right:impatient!).

i like the car, although i would probably take off the paint stripes, the rims and that rear wing, but that exhaust pipe looks interesting... kinda like the Quiksilver exhaust i have, except that it got caught eating the stock mini exhaust mid-digestion!

OK, ease up now. I understand FBR has a large fan base. But there is no need to bash people who don't like their style/aesthetics/approach.. If this is for you and you got the duckets to spend on this... have at it. If some one else doesn't like it, they are entitled to express their opinion without taking personal shots as much as you are. And I believe the term "rice" has evolved beyond its original meaning. Kind of like Xerox. You can buy quality components and throw tons of cash at a car and still end up with a ugly, ill conceived monstrosity. I used to live around the corner from a Russian/Armenian market. Believe me, I have seen my share of $150,000 Mercedes that fully earned the moniker of being "rice".

Agreed... but as always, taste (just as beauty) is in the eye of the beholder.

I was going to say that. I actually ordered that wing from FBR and am waiting for it to get here.

I like that fact that people have opinions here and are very passionate about the MINI and the culture. NAM would be very boring if there weren't any controversy here. Too bad there is not a "Verbal Outwit Forum" within NAM so than we all can really "Get it on!"

As for Shockwave and Neo, I like them both. Remember, FBT is a Hollywood car designer, is ecentric, and has his own taste towards the MINI design. Imagine, MINI USA telling you that you can re-design the MINI and they would produce a drivable concept. Just like most are saying here, to each their own.

The wheels, The aggressive paint, the rear carbon fiber handle (wing) . That is RICE to me. And I though forums where all about gaining knowledge and seeking the opinions of others.

As for unedcated about cars. I think I know my fare share about automobiles. And if this means anything I was running a 17% pulley when most thought a 15% would blow your motor up.

So hah!!! and If i ever meet you we can discuss it over a beer or glass of wine...

I can see the next Mythbusters add, to rice or not. Can you cook it, can you saute it, does the fried stuff go faster!

Clearly we all have different ideas as to what RICE means so I went to wikipedia to look it up....

More contemporary use of the term rice burner, along with the prefix rice, has taken on an alternate pejorative meaning for an automobile that has been modified to give impression of high performance, but does not necessarily have any high-performance capabilities.

Lets not omit anything from Wiki:

More contemporary use of the term rice burner, along with the prefix rice, has taken on an alternate pejorative meaning for an automobile that has been modified to give impression of high performance, but does not necessarily have any high-performance capabilities. This practice is in contrast to the "stealth" or "sleeper" style of automotive modification, where a vehicle may have major performance modifications, but the appearance remains similar to that of a stock model. In this manner, the appellation can apply to any vehicle regardless of country of origin. The most commonly modified cars are sport compacts, but the term can apply to any class of vehicle, including trucks.

In some circles, or even entire regions of the U.S., the term rice car is used exclusively to describe Asian-made vehicles, modified or not. However, as more types of cars began being used as a platform for modification, including German and American-made cars, use of the term rice is no longer restricted to Asian-made vehicles.
