I've washed my Scan Disc and dried it several times. Doing so in your blue jeans pocket must protect it. It still works fine. Is the replacement key really $150?

I found some silica gel, "drying agent", at the local camera store (about $9). Tried the key again, still no dice. Stuck it in the zip-lock the sg came in. I'll give it a few days and see if it helped.

My cell phone made that trip a couple years ago and it's still living to tell about it! I heard the "thump thump thump" in the dryer one day so I went to check it out. The darn thing nearly flew out at me. It's just a cheapie Motorola pay-as-you-go dealie but it's no worse for the wear. It didn't work initially, but I took the battery and SIM card out and let them all dry on the counter for about a week (actually might have been when I was at the dragon)... and then - boom - everything worked again. I was quite amazed and happy .

Why not just take the thing apart. It is super easy and the circuit board comes right out. remove the battery (which is the first thing you should do with any elctronics that get wet) Then blast it with a hair dryer for 30 minutes.

Sorry these were camera phone pics.

Leel:"Why not just take the thing apart. It is super easy and the circuit board comes right out."

After a couple of days in the silica, still not working , so I pried the two halves apart with a pocket knife enough to fit a screwdriver blade in between and worked my way around and it came apart. If you hadn't posted the pics, I would have stopped trying before I got it apart because it didn't feel like it was going to separate . I think I know why some keys work after washing and some don't. There is a glue-line where it fits together. Probably some have a good seal all around and some don't. Anyway, my battery looks a little different from yours and appears to be permanently attached . I really think this thing is history , but it doesn't hurt to let it sit around and dry out more.

OOO, I forgot they changed the keys and I see you have a 2006. I think the battery probably is permanently mounted since it recharges in teh car IIRC. PRobably why yours died sine that is one more thing that can get screwed up.

VICTORY AT LAST

I was cleaning up my office and came across the reluctant key pieces. Decided it was time for another try. I put it back together with a rubber band around it, started the car and drove home. When I got home, the remote WORKED. Moral:

I wouldnt be celebrating at the moment.
I dont think so,
I ALWAYS leave stuff in my pockets, which accounts for the missing reciets and what not for the cleaners
I put my key through the washer/dryer about six months ago and its fine
