Base_MC_CVT_MPG

I just filled up this morning, with 87 octane-the only one I use. Again, my mileage is just a bit over 30mpg (30.9) with a mix of highway and city driving. It is a base MC with a CVT, with 13,000+ miles on it.

Sorry, what is SD mode? I only see posts mention it with CVT. Is it specific to automatics?

SD is an automatic only thing. Its Sport Drive. It keeps the engine at higher RPMs before it shifts.

Thanks everyone for the info. I drive 12 miles to work within the Denver area on a 35mph street with lights. I have always used 91 oct and do drive fast/fun. I seem to get 23-24.5 ( I normally do not reset the OC with every fill-up ). I have always thought I should get better so that's why I posted this thread.

Come on, there can't be 15 - 20 mpg difference with the same car, can there be? How is that even possible?

First don't use the obc, everyone reports it to be optimistic. Mine is 2 MPG higher than actual.
Second, packages can add weight and decrease peformance i.e. sunroofs, Xenons, big rims and runflats are a big culprit.

These reports are going to vary alot depending on wt., driving habits, temperature, AC, passenger wt, etc, mods (intake and exhaust improvements).

These past few weeks have been brutal stop and go traffic always with a passenger and I dropped below 30 at 29.6 in my 5 sp. manual. I have the JCW sound kit which adds 1-2 MPG. Best I got was still in breakin, hwy with AC was 34.2. I average 30.5.
'06 MC w/JCW SK, Premium, Conv, DSC, Xenons, 15" wheels.

OK, well on my fourth tank I got 28.7 mpg, so it's slowly creeping up each fill-up! (26 - 1st, 27 - 2nd, 28 - 3rd). However, I put 13.575 gallons into the car, and I thought it could only hold 13.2?!?!

usually about 27-28 mpg in mostly non-highway driving.
([fill-up gallons /miles by trip odometer] method over 3-4 years.)

I have a '05 CVT, when I got him July 10th, he had only 3,350 miles but the MPG was 23.3! Guess it was how the first owner drove him. The guy said he never got the hang of the CVT.

Now he has 8,755 miles. Since I have been driving him he gets pretty much a constant 26.7. I am still learning the D/SD/M tricks. Maybe my milage will get even better as I master the CVT.

I just turned over 18,000 miles and now I'm getting 27.3! It's getting better all the time.............

BUT, yesterday I was going thru the OBC check and all the stats came up normal except the MPG read 99.9!!!! What the crap!

Anyone else have this happen?

When I picked up my MC from the dealer the MPG and the avg. speed both were reading 99.9 until I reset them.

Mine really doesn't change, because I tend to get 32 in town and on the freeway maybe 34 if I am lucky...

I live in TX and I get 24-26 in city driving and 32-36 on highway (around 75mph cruise control). My MCS has 32K miles, bought it brand new with all pkgs minus gps and premium sound. The best mileage I had was about two years ago traveling from CA to TX, with a tailwind I got 44 mpg. That's mpg almost like motorcycle!

I must get the worst MPG of any I have seen posted anywhere. I average 22.5 on both the OBC and computing myself. But I didn't buy this car to worry about MPG, I bought it to DRIVE IT !

In all honesty though it's mostly me. I have 05 MCS, drive 95% local, lots of stop and go, usually under 4 mile trips, and I drive it hard and fast.

I guess they will have to reset my OBC, now its saying I avg. 2.3 mph in speed! That laughable! I'm due for service in 6,400 miles, I'll run that out quick enough and be back to normal soon.

I get around 30 city and 38-40 highway. on the highway, I noticed that I get around 38-40 when I drive about 70 w/ cc set, and only 33-35 when I go 75-80 w/ cc set. Huge drop, and I've heard thats from the drag at higher speeds...

Yep, speed makes a big difference...if you can drive, say 50 mph, you would probably get way over 40 mpg. and yes, it's mostly due to wind resistance.
