What is your MC's MPG??

I would like to hear what kind of mileage everyone is getting who has a MC with CVT. I have an 03 and get 23-24 in the city.

Thanks!!

Jeremy1026 Oct 25, 2006 07:58 PM

Im calculating about 25MPG, OBC is telling me about 23MPG in my 03' MCa. Thats with about a 80-20 City/Highway mix. Im satisfied with that, if I would spend more time on the highway, or atleast away from all the darn traffic lights, I could see me getting 28 to 30MPG no problem

novemberist Oct 25, 2006 08:01 PM

Since I bought my MINI in December, I've gotten about 30 MPG in mostly city miles. Though, a nice jaunt to SF from LA probably brought that up a bit.

She's an '06 Cooper with manual transmission.

jj83118 Oct 25, 2006 08:19 PM

I got 35 mpg on my first tank and a little over 34 on the second. My car is not broken-in yet (about 900 miles). The OBC calculated 36.1 and 35.6 mpg.

I think I'm getting great milage, but I have a 43 mile commute (one way) at a steady 60 mph.

I'm sure it will go down a bit after I hit 1250 miles (I've yet to go past 4500 rpm or floor-it).

i get around 24.2 to about 25.4 per gallon.

03Indigo Oct 25, 2006 08:24 PM

I don't have CVT, but in my manual, with intake, exhaust, lowered, 17" rims with 215-40-17 Prada's I am averaging 36.1 miles per gallon in my 2003 MC. I do drive it somewhat hard, but overall, just average driving. 50-50 highway/city....just over 18K miles now ;). Not a lot of miles as the car is only a play car and fair weather car, but still, very happy with the mileage. Worst I ever got on a tank was 24mpg, best tank was 41, but that was with the smaller rims and tires.

Yona_Usti Oct 25, 2006 09:05 PM

onboard computer says 24.5 on my 06 cvt cabrio...I have a very heavy foot. got great milage (over 35 mpg) on the way to Vegas last month.

MiniMaybee Oct 25, 2006 09:38 PM

I hope everyone can be honest with their mileage claims.
I have a CVT with the following results since 6/23/06:

Days = 115, Miles = 5143, Gallons = 187.9 at an average of $3.10/gal
Average 44.7 miles/day (90% city) so average cost is $0.114/mile

Fuel Economy
Maximum = 33.1 mpg (542 miles that day across Colorado and Wyoming)
Minimum = 24.7 mpg (from first tank full of gas)
Average = 27.9 mpg (not a slow driver, but not too speedy either)

I drive with the CVT in SD mostly except on my road trips.
So be honest people, tell us what you really get.
PS - Sorry for being such an engineer (but I did only use one decimal place)

SD on during "normal" driving will hurt your gas milage. SD raises the shift point from about 2500 rpm to 4000 rpm. So your engine will be constantly running at higher rpm.

Here's mine:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=82134

I have a 5sp rather than a CVT. I've logged and computed the mileage since it was a month old. I've averaged 29.9, honest.

Tio Barry Oct 26, 2006 03:52 AM

I had an '03 CVT; when I first got it at 14k mi I was getting like 26 mixed and 30+ hiway. By the time I got to 30k with a reflash from MINI and a steady diet of premium I was getting up to 37 hiway and never less than 30 suburban.
Are you keeping your tires at least 36 psi? Always stay in D on the hiway?

Now I have an '06 CVT; With 8k on the clock I get 30 mixed driving and up to 36 on long trips.

erickvonzipper Oct 26, 2006 04:01 AM

I've never actually calculated it, but my computer says 27.3 mpg. Obie has a manual tranny. I'm in traffic a lot, and when I'm not, I'm heavy-footed. =o)

JennyS Oct 26, 2006 04:03 AM

I hava a manual, not CVT, but I am averaging about 29-30mpg mixed driving. The highway part is often quite congested, so it's not *true* highway driving. 20-30 mile commute depending on the clinic for that day.

I am totally honest about my 36.1. I have not tracked my car in a couple of years, get on it only once in a while these days, but mostly, I drive it pretty average, not slow, but not aggressive. I have set the trip computer and it has been averaging 36.1 for the last 3000 miles. I have calculated a tank a couple of times on that, and it is pretty accurate. I don't have those numbers written down, I do them at the pump, but they have been right around 36mpg each time. My car continually gets better milage. When I first got it, I stomped on it all the time and saw 27.3 on average, now I am less likely to get on it so hard. I have only put in 85 octane since the beginning so go figure. I still can't believe i get this good of mileage.

mini-mine Oct 26, 2006 05:07 AM

I've gotten 26 the first tank, 27 the second and 28 the third... All of these were a mixture of city and highway, with more leaning to city. I live really close to work, so I do a lot of short trips I guess. But it appears to be going up each fill up, so I hope to reach 30 soon! I haven't done a pure highway road-trip yet, so I'm guessing that will be mid-30's when I finally get around to it!

satay-ayam Oct 26, 2006 05:34 AM

My worst was 13 mpg ... around Black Hawk Farms raceway

My best was a tank of about 39mpg, across Wisconsin, probably with a tailwind

I average something between 13 and 39.

ProfessorDave Oct 26, 2006 07:43 AM

Prudence gets 24 - 25 city, 37 - 38 highway.
She also got 16 MPG on the dyno doing over 100!

ProfessorDave Oct 26, 2006 07:50 AM

Oops! Just went back to the first post...I have the 5 spd, not the CVT. Your results may vary.

SilverHawk Oct 26, 2006 08:29 AM

Just turned 2200 miles and so far I'm getting 24.5 mpg. Mostly city driving and I have the CVT. Also I use the SD mode a lot.

ma78 Oct 26, 2006 08:31 AM

26.2

Red Ryder Oct 26, 2006 08:42 AM

Constantly 30+. Probably 80% city and currently for the month of October it is 33.4. September was 35.3. W/ CVT

Gas mileage

I have an "05" rag top 5 speed MC and a 25 mile commute. I'm averaging 33 mpg in mixed driving.

Armchairman Oct 26, 2006 09:49 AM

I have a 5 speed MC, and I average 32 mixed per the OBC. However, on highway trips with the cruise control set to the legal limit of 70mph, that drops to 28 or so. If I dial it back to 65, mileage returns to 32ish. Has anyone else noticed something similar?

RonP Oct 26, 2006 10:49 AM

2003 5-speed 28.5, all city street driving. Plus, I don't shift before 4k. I'm sure it would improve if I dropped that to 3k.

Aquasar Oct 26, 2006 12:59 PM

04MC 5SP I get 28-30 in town and sometimes I can get 34 on the freeway. I have no idea why my mileage stays around 30mpg. I am baffled?
