Can't get boot cover to close properly

I just bought a 2003 MCS and love it. I took the boot shelf cover off and now when I put it back on and try to close the lift gate the door hits it and will not close. It is almost like the shelf needs to stay propped up a little to make room for the door. Any one ever experience this and what am I doing wrong when re-installing it?

Thanks,
K

Are you jamming the cover all the way forward until it clicks into place? There's a detent in the plastic receptacle that seems to take ten 10-20 lbs of force to get past.

I know the answer! I just got a new (previously owned) shelf and it did what yours is doing. There's a piece of metal that runs across the shelf (you can see its outline under the felt). You need to push it up (I used my foot!) so that the cutout that matches up with the washer motor cover sits higher. Trust me, it will close just fine.

cheers,
