I saw my "look-alike" in Tahlequah, OK. Had Cherokee nation plates on it. No wave, but we were going the same direction and didn't pass each other.

I think that in order to own a MINI you should have to pass an "enthusiast test"

There are more Minis on the road

The reason you think you are seeing more Minis on the road is as the years go by and 30K or 40K a year are sold there is a "compounding" of Minis. There have been more then 150K sold in the US since they were introduced. Most of them are still on the road.

MINIS Around DC

I live in the Northern VA area and I'm seeing more and more it seems. I think it's cool because each one is unique and it's fun to see how people have designed their own.

I have to say when I wave it's usually 50/50, and most times I think it's because the other person didn't notice me in our crazy traffic.

The other day I took the SAAB out for a drive and instinctively waved at a MINI without thinking - man did I get strange look from the guy driving......

In fact, we have brand new neighbors across the street - the son drives a CR/W - NO WAVES yet and I've been out in the driveway many times - looked right at him and he doesn't even turn his head... I might just have to go pay a neighborly visit in person..

I wave. At Minis, and at A1 VW's. Recognize, however, that some people buy Minis because it's a good fun car, not because they want to be in some sort of social club. Me? I'm somewhere in between, I guess. But I always wave, even in New Jersey.

(oh yeah, before you flame, I'm from NJ... parents, sister, etc.!)
lol
its a long finger too, right .... calif. style is a little shorter.

I drove from California to Florida between last Thursday and Sunday. Just a little east of El Paso, I saw a classic British taxi coming the other way...that was pretty cool. I didn't see another MINI until I was nearing Houston, Texas. I waved (I always wave), and know that at least one of the other MINI drivers saw me and waved back. It was great! I also saw a few MINIs in Alabama, along with quite an impressive collection of classic cars such as '56 Bel Airs and some beautiful old hot rods.

Depends on the part of Jersey I guess.... northern, central, and southern Jersey some times seem like three different states. Around Princeton in the central part of the state there are a ton of MINIs - with several living in my neighborhood - and I get waves around 50% of the time (and occasionally I am not the first to wave).

This morning was a two-MINI morning on the way to work. The first was a black MC with an oblivious driver - even though we were stuck in traffic side by side on a 4 lane road. The second driver was a doll - she came roaring over a bridge in her MCS (with the newer curved bonnet stripe that wraps around the scoop), made a left turn and pulled right into my field of view. No wave, but the biggest sunniest smile in the direction of me and my CR Cabrio - I think she was smartly keeping both hands on the wheel during a "G-Face" maneuver but I will take a smile like that to a wave any day.

Even with more MINIs out there, we will never every catch up to the production levels of almost anything else out there - which is certainly purposeful in maintaining the mystique of the brand (ask yourself why they don't stamp out a couple production plants on each continent to meet demand... because the MINI would end up like the Beetle if they did).

I just got my MINI yesterday so I don't know how to comment about too many MINI's, but I have seen a lot more of them lately too. Today was my first time passing a MINI (actually two) in my own MINI and no one waved at me. One person was talking on her cell phone and the other completely ignored me.

Don't worry, us new MINI owners wave too..at least I will!

How appropriate that I ran across this thread today.

Bought a '06 in Feb. and, other than the day it was picked up at the dealer, haven't seen more than 20 (total, not 20 different ones.) Guess that's not too surprising since the nearest dealer is 100 miles away. Anyway, it had been 2-3 weeks since my last Mini sighting then I saw 2, within 60 seconds, today. One was going the opposite direction and one pulled up behind be. I waved at both but neither one waved back .
