R50/53 What a sad day for my mini.
The first one's always the hardest. I remember my spankin' new white Koseis, 1 day old, I was like a kid with a big bag of candy. Parallel parking and crunch! I almost had a fit. After that it was much easier. Now each lip is chewed up and it's almost like I'm not close enough if I don't hear that sound when I'm parking. It's only a piece of metal.
My husband did that to my Dobby one time he was driving. And he never did fess up. He has a habit of hitting curbs. But regardless, Dobby's boo-boo looks REAL similar.
But it's bittersweet - I have to have the rims replaced anyway. They have been hit HARD with unavoidable potholes here in NE Ohio. 3 of the 4 are bent. :(

I've done that exact samething on every expensive car I have ever owned. Most of those cars were BMWs with 18" wheels with no side wall protection whatsoever. That's one of the reasons I love my GMC Yukon. I don't have to worry about curbs or parking blocks and I can take it through any automatic car wash.
When my wife was driving the '03 Mini she scraped 3 of the 4 rims. When I took over driving the '03 I didn't bother to replace the wheels. I would imagine how I would feel if I fixed or replaced the rim, only to scrape it again...

Yeah, I scraped the passenger rim of our mini (about like that) the second week we had it, backing out of a parking space by a concrete surrounded tree planter. I thought I had backed far enough before turning, but evidently not. I'd almost rather not get it fixed, because it's a reminder to be more careful, but there are companies that can fix them like new for about $150/rim.
