Those are 02-04 tail lamps, if you wanted to switch to those you'll need to put a reverse light in the bumper, checkout myminiparts for the equipment needed.

I have the 02-04 lights in my 06. Like mentioned. You'll need to buy a reverse light. I think it is below $20. I believe there is also a kit to convert the newer lights to the older car so maybe there is one to put the older lights in a newer car. I just wired it myself. It's not much to it but it's best if you understand the wiring before cutting and splicing then finding the rear fog light wire and using it as power for the reverse light.

The reverse light connection on the newer car is actually the turn signals on the older lights. One of those wires needs to connect into the fog light wire so that you can use the connector behind the bumper. That is, if you don't have the fog light option. The connector is also reversed polarity so that'll need to be fixed. Then the turn signal of the new car needs to be moved to the turn signal of the older lights. Then you can do the fog light mod to make your brake lights brighter.

This is what I did and by no means is it instructions on how to do it. Something terrible can happen if not done correctly which, if it does, I'm sure it will screw something up badly. And I am sure the warranty will not cover it since wires were cut. So don't do it if you're not familiar with wiring.

In other words. Look around for an adapter.

Is that enough of an "I'm not responsible" comment?

If you have the guts to pull it off then you are certainly worthy of a pat on the back though.

Reason ...

I appreciate the informative replies.

The only reason I am considering older used taillights is so I can have them tinted.

The condition of the lens (as long as they are not cracked) doesnt matter since they will be sanded down.
