Touch-Up Paint

I just applied a layer of touch up paint, and it looks kinda yucky...see attachment. Does that look normal for a 1st coat? Or should I wash it off real quick?

This is a troll, right? There's a bunch of prep that you would typically do before putting the paint on. There are non-typical tools required for "finishing" the job. There are many links to useful websites for How-To's describing the right way to do exactly what you're trying.

You might start by searching "Detailing 101" forum for relevant terms like "scratch", "touch up", etc. You can probably find hours of worthwhile reading there, which will make you want to start over and do it right.

I agree it looks "unfinished", but I bet you will back up and start over after doing some homework - Good Luck

Was it just a scratch? Touch-up paint is usually just a small amount of paint applied with a tiny brush or stick applicator. This looks like you tried to spray several square inches at once.

wipe with solvent would be my best guess, but 15 minutes is a fair amount of time for these things to dry!

it was about a dime size something, and was white, so i used the little fingernail polish type brush, the bottle says apply thin layer, i got as much off the brush as i could, but when it got to my car, there was still alot of paint on it. so i spread it thin. I got alot of it off with bug and tar remover and some polish. :( It's not noticable, unless you know its there.

I'm guessing thats the boot lid? Is it ajar or has it been bumped and knocked out of alignment, the body line looks a bit odd? If so, you may require a bit more then just touch up.

Wow, if you're unsure don't put it on your baby. Think and work in small areas. Make sure you're 100% sure on technique then start.

its shut, thats the condition i bought the car in (used) and carfax said it wasnt in any accidents...but there is some damage on the rear bumper, maybe its from the same thing that caused the white on my rear panel? just took it to a smaller body shop that didnt put it on the VIN's report?

Carfax shows ONLY an accident that had a police report!

Carfax shows ONLY a modified title!

Carfax is useless for 99% of the cars on the road!

Interesting. I should look up my VIN on my POS and see if it shows the good nailing I got a couple years ago...

If you are trying to do paint work for the first time, your chances of getting a result that someone else would want to have done for them are practically nill. There is a whole process to use to prepare the surface for painting, technique to use in applying the paint, and, and, and. Tatt is completely on point in suggestions to learn about how automotive finishes are applied.

That's what I was thinking, just prevents from buying a car that has been salvaged more or less.

Good body shop should be able to take a look and give you an idea if it was something real bad. It may have just been a shoddy repair job of minor damage.
