Yesterday there was a news item on TV that Mini Cooper was issuing a recall for "brake cable" issues . . . anyone hear about this? What's the scoop?

You mean shifter cable. Old news, common problem, they finally issued a formal recall.

VIN Range:TC30066-TC34812, are the MINI Coopers affected by the gear shift cable problems. This is the Base Cooper 5-speed, not the CVT or the MCS.

If the last 7 digits on your VIN fall within the above-listed range, you need to replace the following parts:
Shift Cable Clip: #25-117-525-816
Wire Harness Clip: #61-13-6-915-981
Tie Clip: #61-13-0-148-794

Don't wait for MINI to send a letter! Call and pre-order the parts and demand replacement!

My mom saw on the news that all MINI's were being recalled due to defective brake cables. It's amazing what passes for journalism these days. Do they even bother checking sources or getting facts anymore?

Are you sure it's just not your mom being confused? There's another BMW with rear brake cables, that's being mentioned in the same news reports....
