A long time ago I posted a thread asking about the gear ratios of the 5 speed vs the 6 speed. If you look at the MINIUSA site it shows that the 5 speed has an overdrive but the 6 speed does not. This just has to be a mistake why would anyone build a 6 speed without at least one overdrive.

I need to email MINIUSA about this but first I want to ask the people that have Cooper S and coopers what kind of RPMs they are turning at speed.

For the Cooper:

RPM in 4th gear at:

50=
60=
70=

RPM in 5th gear at:

50=
60=
70=

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For Cooper S:

RPM in 4th gear at:

50=
60=
70=

RPM in 5th gear at:

50=
60=
70=

RPM in 6th gear at:

50=
60=
70=

Yea, it's higher than my Mustang was too. You can't get very far in first gear which bugs a bit.

I can add a few more data points:

5th Gear
50 mph____2.25
60mph____2.5
70mph____3.2
80mph____3.75
90mph____4
95mph____4.5
110mph___5.0

The motor does howl a bit when you get up towards 5.0 but it cruises like a dream between 90 and 100 (you have got to love the autobahn...).

Cheers,

Coops

Yea! I was doin' 110 for quite a while on a long-distance trip (see member MINIs gallery pg 24 for proof  ) and it rode just as smooth as if I was doin' 50! That's awesome! I wanna drive on the autobahn too! That must be quite an experience and even better in a new MINI! Lucky you!
