When we get the Element paid off, then we will probably add another Mini to the family.

Two MINI here as well:

Hers: 2002 MC CVT with 38K miles (Will be 4 years old in Aug 7, '06)

Mine: 2005 MCS 6MT hardtop with nearly 16K totally troublefree miles. (Born Feb '05 and delivered late March '05)
Both cars are hard working daily drivers, vacation highway cruisers, you name it. These cars see use day in and day out. None of that "Garage beauty queen" stuff here, LOL

Soon both MINIs will also enter "Family car" service when Vincent our 1st one becomes the youngest motorer of the clan, come November (If not sooner).

We have been a TwoMini Family since Fall '02. We both still love the cars.

It's getting a bit tight when we take the kids on the road so we have a 4Runner for the longer family trips.

Here are the dynamic duo . The first is a picture I almost entered in this month photo contest...**** get out there and vote!!!

The second picture is the duo in the woods

My Mini is still on order - but already other family members want one!

My dad test drove with me and is now talking about selling his Camry and getting a MCS (mom wants him to get a cooler car - which the mini is of course!)

And my boyfriend is presently driving a 3 year old modded sports car, but he keeps bringing up how I "hate to drive" and how he will suffer and drive my Mini for me . . . . yeah right! He is just going to have to get his own!

Let me run a search.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six
(the last two are from people worried about their CVT failing, so I'm not the only one who's heard these stories).

That was just from a search on "CVT belt" on the General Interest forum.

So, if all autos are CVTs, what's with the paddle shifters on the one at the dealership? There shouldn't be any gears to change through, right? Unless they just go from reverse to neutral to drive.

I didn't say you were the only one worried about failures. I said I hadn't read a thread about it, and with the wording you used in your original post "all these broken belts" I would have thought I had seen threads about it. If you will look back at post #25 I said I found the one from 7/11, and I guess for some folks, 3 or 4 is qualifies for "all those people".

Additionally, I said nothing about paddle shifters, I said there were 3 Gertrag 5 speed tranny's waiting to be replaced. The tech stated he had seen more of those come in then the older Midland. The 5 speed is a Cooper tranny, which does not come with the paddle shifters.

I have an '03 Silk Green Cooper CVT with just over 30K miles, and I just purchased an '06 MCSa in Royal Grey. It has about 2400 miles since the end of May. Since my Cooper is for show, the S is for goooooooo!

Sorry man, didn't meant to touch a nerve. I've only been here since June and I've already run across 3 or 4 CVT problem threads. I guess I thought it was a common problem or something.

The paddle shifter question had nothing to do with you. I was just wondering why you'd need a paddle shifter on a CVT.

And it seems I'm still wondering!

cydewaze,

To clear up your confusion... all MCs with automatic use the CVT transmission... and all MCSes with automatic (only available in 05 and 06) use a 6-speed traditional automatic. The MCSa models (i.e. MCSautomatic) also come with the "paddle shifters" that you saw as standard. The paddles are not available on the MCcvt models.

Which thread are you viewing???

From the first post of this thread:
A call out to other two-mini households. Are your babies the daily driver or do you break them out just for special occasions. Do you still have other cars? Any fun ideas on what to do when Christmas comes along and you realize you don't have a big car (let alone two little cars) with stable roofs? Share your stories.
Lots of threads about MINI's and small kids - some rather heated

Good luck with the wife, but I will tell ya my daughter just picked up her Cooper a few weeks ago and she has 2 small children (8 & 4) and they love it. We're still working on getting the DVD player back working, but as of now it's still a keeper!

After using the new Turtle Wax ICE today, I have fallen in love with our MINI's all over again!

Sadly, my camera is not available for photos, so I'll have to post some older ones in this thread. . .

We have two minis with two (grade 3 & 1) children. Both cars are cabrios. So far, everything fits great, except for a lot of other kids. I had a Honda Pilot thinking I was going to be toting all of my friends' kids around. How many times was I carpool mom? In two years, maybe three or four. So, why drive something that is no fun when I don't need it?

Now, all the kids want to be driven by "Auntie" Leeta! They know what's cool!
