R50/53 Carpet or Rubber Floor mats?
I vote again for 'both.'
I keep the carpet mats in the car all the time but throw the driver's side mat in when I know the weather is getting nasty for a while. I've got the passenger mat, but I rarely have passengers...
I LOVE the rubber boot mat... it has paid for itself in saved upholstry cleaner alone!

My dogs would eat the leather!

The beagles think the Mini is theirs!...they try to get into it when they are in the garage...It is about beagle size i guess to them!
I got both when I got my MCS used. Haven't had cause to remove the rubber ones for the carpet yet. Even in CA, the rubber looks nice, and is a breeze to clean. I'll have to try the carpet ones just for giggles.

The carpet passenger mat currently resides in the dog house out back.
I guess it depends - I love rubber mats in the winter (with the slush and all) and carpet mats in the summer (it keeps the sand/dirt from moving around),
Personally carpet mats work better for me since they trap everything . . . I can replace the mats, but with rubber the debris ends up on the actual floor (at least for me) . . .

I'm all about rubber and plastic, lol... I don't like all the crap cloth and carpet attracts and keeps in it! The state my poor old Honda carpet mats and cloth seats are in are just sad... I almost feel bad getting rid of the poor thing, but hey it's 9 yrs old! It's been good, but I'm on to something better!
Rubber mats! Rubber mats! Do it!
I have them in my car, and FAR prefer them to the carpet I've had in previous cars. They don't seem cheap at all, and it sounds like they'll last a lot longer and be much easier to clean than the carpet ones.

Go back to your dealership and pick some up! They're a good way to preserve your interior.
RUBBER! I wish I had had rubber for my other vehicles all these years; cloth just absorbs all the dirt/salt/water and the interior takes on the smell of that dirt/salt/water after a while... Just hose the rubber mats off and they're like new. Definitely the best option IMO and they do not look cheap.

Seriously though, rubber mats are the way to go. They stand up to most anything, are easy to clean, and look great. Distinctive, too -- it seems like most cars out there have carpet mats, but not many have good-looking, well-designed rubber mats.
My only complaint about the rubber mats is that my right heel tends to slide around a little bit too much... especially back and forth to work in dress shoes.
The carpeted mats are much easier on me to live with but the rubber ones give more protection.

For me, the carpeted mats look nice, but don't wear well. The rubber mats are very durable, but show dust and dirt very easily. Sure they're easy to clean, but who wants to clean floor mats every day?
Hence I ponied up for some coco mats. Very durable, hide the dirt very well, and they add a unique retro-flair that seems to go well with the interior.

My dealership gave me my choice... free carpet or free rubber. One set is $10-15 more expensive, I think, so I asked for the more expensive mats for free and bought the others.
Spring for the rear rubber boot mat! It's invaluable.

Sometimes you can convince your MA to throw in some free stuff, but it sounds like it all comes out of their pockets, so it's unlikely you'll get offered much unless mistakes are made with your order. In my case, I was charged TWICE for the $2000 deposit, and my MA promised me a free accessory, so I went with the rubber mats.
