Smokey the Bear vs Aliens in a Mini

As our family gets ready to go on our summer vacation we were looking at last years photos. We came across one that had the wife and I rolling with laughter. Last year we decided to head to Roswell NM for the Alien festival on 4th of July weekend. We figured why not head down for a day its only about 2 hours from Lubbock. The kids are really into aliens so what the heck.

From Roswell we decided to spend head to Capitan NM home of the "Smokey the Bear" museum we figure the kids would be like "Cool!" After all Smokey is a true icon right? (It would also make for a good Mini Photo) When we arrived at the coveted Smokey the Bear museum every one had to go real bad, while we were in the bathroom my son looked me square in the eye and asked "Dad who the heck is Smokey the Bear?"

I died laughing as I exited my wife was grinning ear to ear and at the same time we both said "Whos Smokey the Bear?" (she was asked the same question by my daughter) It was a riot.

Moral of the story "Do'nt visit the "Crying Indian Museum" (remember the commercial) your kids wont have a clue and you will feel real old.

The Mini trip was a fun weekend even if Smokey the Bear is no longer an icon with kids.

Priceless photos since EB was traded for DS Cabrio two weeks later

Times change, I suppose. We did a television interview with Iron Eyes Cody (who was Italian, btw) back in the mid-80s...what a character!!!

Hope your kids have seen "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" - great movie, IMO. On the other alien extreme I love "The Thing" too. John Carpenter. :-)

I love Smokey the Bear. He's even on my liscence plates! At the Ohio State Fair they have a giant animated Smokey, he was my favorite thing every year. It's too embarrassing to tell you how old I was when I figured out how he knew my name!

I loved Smokey the Bear when I was a kid too. I remember a book I used to have about his story, and a Smokey the Bear stuffie. Didn't know they had a museum! Cool
Think your getting old? Don't feel bad.
When my son was young he came to me and asked me what a record was. That hurt.
