My husband & I have had sportscars since we've been together. A BIG variety of them. He was stubborn enough that when I picked the Mini he insisted we drive the "S" to see the difference. He thought I would tire of the 'minimal' power. We drove them back to back TWICE. There was not a big enough difference in our opinion to warrant the extra $3,000. Though we don't live in the "mountains" I've already driven in the mountains & the excitement of driving this car is still over-whelming to me. On the way home from the dealership I virtually "lost" my husband in his 2002 Toyota Tundra V-8. He was quite impressed. I say buy what makes you happy, but do your 'own' homework. Enjoy MOTORING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I needed to get the MCS because of the hours of empty twisting roads available!

I didn't notice much difference between the two on a test drive either. But, now that I drive the MC every day, I wonder if I would now notice the difference with the S.

My only beef with the MC is that it has such a hard time starting in first gear with the air conditioning on. It has completely stalled on me once (how embarrassing!). I even try giving it more gas when I start up from a light with the a/c on, but it doesn't seem to help that much- it's really slow at those times. So, I'm in the habit of turning off the a/c when the light turns green (sorry to say it). Does anyone else have this problem. When the a/c isn't on the car has plenty of power. I wonder how it'd do in the snow? Glad I won't have to find out. Anyway, with the extra markup on the S and the extended wait, it wasn't really an option for me. I still love my car!

My MINI does that as well. From what I've read, this is a known issue, and it can be fixed with a software update, which is due to get to the dealers in August.

I had to go with the 'S'. There isn't a huge difference in the lower gears unless you do some fine tuning, but the top end of the 'S' once the supercharger kicks in is much better.
