Reduced number of colours for new MINIs?

Hi all.
I had my eyes set on buying a new mini, and after seeing the overwhelming satisfaction in this forum I can see I'd be in good crowd . However, after test driving a mini cooper here in Canada, I was informed by the dealer that some of the colours I had my eye on - British Racing Green, Liquid Yellow, and Electric Blue amongst others- are being discontinued by MINI and can no longer be ordered for new models. Not only that but the roof color choices are reduced, e.g. white roof is only available for chili red and astro black.

As part of the appeal of the MINI for me is its distinctiveness, being told the equivalent of "you can have any colour you want as long as its black", reduces the appeal of the Mini for me. Is this absurd new policy only in Canada or is this a new cost-cutting strategy by BMW worldwide? Is it still possible to get Cooper in any of those colours in our neighbours to the south in the good 'ol US of A?

Electric Blue was discontinued awhile back. Liquid Yellow was only avail in the MC for '06. Unless there has been a change that I've missed, BRG is still avail. I understand Canadian dealers have different ordering criteria, but I can't imagine that BRG is gone.

FWIW... I was told by my MA that the "revolving" colours helps keep the appeal and resale value up... Personally, it helps *me* ID the year of some MINIs, going the opposite direction on the freeway at 60-70 mph *wink*

From what I see in the Mini Canada website (mini.ca) confirms what my dealer told me - the MCS is now only available in Canada in Chili Red, Hyper Blue, Astro Black and Dark Silver. I suspect they may be trying to reduce less popular colours in their inventory ahead of the introduction of the 2007 Cooper. Still, leaves those of us with a taste for BRG with nowhere to go - hopefully it'll be re-introduced for 2007.

Yeah I can't believe they would axe BGR either. You can't not offer a British car in that color!
