R50/53 Be honest, are you still in love with your MINI?
I've testdrove the FJ about 3 months back. The exterior styling is very nice. It's definitely unique. However, the interior is a different story. The dashboard is too "toyish". It, in fact, feels cheap. It doesn't feel like a rugged off-road vehicle. It feels too "city-like". The interior cries out for a sun/moon roof. It is so dark inside. Part of the reason is the teeny windows in the rear. The subwoofer that comes optional with the FJ is horrendous. It looks like a "ghetto-blaster" from back in the 80's. I test drove a manual FJ. The car drives like a boat. I've driven other SUVs before and this thing is heavy and not very responsive.
Well anyway, that's my 2 cents regarding the FJ Cruiser.

2,75 years here.... and i gotta admit, the love is waning, not as much of the love as before...hell just last week i threw some tantrums at the car just because she's got such a tiny spot where tools can gather.... was gonna take a 8mm wrench back out of the slot behind the intake, ripped the intake out, subsequently dropped another washer in there! needless to say..... i gotta take those things back out, but i was cursing on why o why did they make it such a difficult task!

Hmmm, it's pretty bad when we have to make sure one obsession is compatible with another, isn't it???
Yes! Especially when I'm on twisties, or especially short or empty freeway onramps.
And I can't help smiling when I see another MINI on the road, even after 3 1/2 years. I turn into a d**m grinning fool when another MINI owner waves or give me a

No room in the car? give me a break. Half the people who have back seats don't even use them... There's where the groceries go - schmuck muck

As for my response to the first post... Some people are just STUPID. If the woman you saw will be transporting 6 others with her often, or needs to do some serious off-roading, then MAYBE the Hummer is an ok choice.
I don't understand the love affair that stupid rich Americans have with huge SUVs. I can just imagine their thought process...
"Since gas prices keep increasing, and I drive around by myself most of the time, I surely need a 10mpg beast that I don't know how to drive. Who cares if I can't park in only one parking spot, or if I am helping to kill our environment and add to our dependency for foreign oil. At least I'll look like a cocky, ignorant, ridiculous idiot when I am driving around!"

I'm so glad I found this thread. But for different reasons
I love cars, but unfortunately, my problem is that I get bored of cars really fast. I usually return my cars after about a year. I get bored of them in about 6 months
The only car I had that I absolutely loved, and thought I'd keep it for life was my Honda S2000, which I gave back to the dealership after my husband's brother crashed it.(It was heavily modified S2k, mind you) I tried to keep it, but I was so paranoid with the car afterwards. It just didn't feel the same after the accident.
The mini is the first car in a long time, where the car is actually "fun" to drive. Just like my S2000 was a "fun" car to drive. I have only had my MCS for...let's see..less than 2 months, but I think I can imagine not getting bored of it. No one in my life believes me though. But they don't know that I know, its a keeper!
I'm glad to know that majority of the mini drivers out there are still in love with their car. See? I think I have hope.
Btw, that hummer girl is crazy. I sat in one of those Hummer's and dang, for the massive giant that they are, there is NO space!! My head almost touch the roof, and the seats were so cramped. And its turning radius is like non-existent. I'd like to see her keep her cool when she's making a u-turn. She'll be missing her mini real soon:p

Loved my '03. I was feeling guilty to trade her in for a MCSC, and the night before the trade I actually talked to her apologizing for selling her off. My '03 was sold to a DC lady. My SA once called me to tell me that my old MNI was in for her 25,000 miles service ... I felt better knowing that she well cared for.
I love my MCSC and her sister (my husband's) a MCC and I have already begun falling in love with the new MINI coming in Sept. This time, however, I 'll no have a goodbye talk with my MCSC as I will keep her, too.
Never felt this way for any other car I previously owned

It's hard to be bored while driving a MC.

That was our requirement too. MINIs do fit a lot of gear, though... I recently drove 100 miles each way to a festival with 2 other performers, along with our 6 strums in the boot and remaining seat space. Not too crowded either, you just have to pack right.

1 BBQ Grill

2 XL bags of Chacoal
1 bag of tongs, grill brush, etc
2 trips to Barney's, 2 large bags (boyfriend has expensive tastes!)
1 mega trip to Old Navy, 2 larger bags (you can tell that I have a MINI payment!)
6 cases of PBR
1 case of good cider for me
1 case of Stella for him
and
$200 of meat, potatoes, corn, dogs, buns, 2 whole chickens, etc etc etc.
We finished shopping at 10 pm and still had over 2ft of headspace in the back area of the MINI.
HA!!! Bring it on!

I can't get enough of the driving experience...Especially when the road is twisty, winding and has loads of hills...8 miles worth to town! Yahoo!!
