Atlanta is traffic anarchy, especially in the rain. Negligent drivers abound. If I could work from home five days a week, I'd do so in a heartbeat.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a fair settlement.

Holy moley...I'm so sorry about your car..only 2 months old?Aww.
Glad you're all ok. Was your dog strapped in? That's my major fear, that our dog would get thrown around in a major accident. He has a seat bealt, jic.
Best of luck with Son of Gunner

Looks like the MINI took the brunt of the impact instead of the Camaro. If you look at the Camero's tire tread, it seems to me they are quite worn and definitely a factor it losing control in the rain.

Any estimate on the impact speed? I realize you were doing 50+ but the Camaro wasn't standing still either.

Finally, if he indeed was driving without a license (instead of merely leaving it at home), does that mean he also has no insurance?

The main reason that the Camaro driver didn't speak to us is that most likey he doesn't speak english. Luckily the Officer that helped us spoke spanish.

In Georgia, you do not have to speak to anyone else (except the Police) when involved in an accident. And it's probaly best if you don't. The wrong words, like "Sorry" could come out of your mouth (sorry that you're hurt, etc), which would admit to guilt.

The Camaro's driver was charged with not having a licence (not having it on him or just not having one?), failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions. The driver also tried to change his story, saying that we were the ones that were driving wrecklessly. That made the officer laugh and slapped him with something else. I'll get the whole report on Friday.
That's great to hear about Rob's hand!! It sucks that it's broken, but at least there won't be any surgery and it should be back to 100% eventually.

I believe the it's same here in VA, re: not having to talk to anyone except the police after an accident. The way I read your story, I thought he refused to talk to you. And I'm glad he got ticketed.

Sorry to hear about Gunner. It looks like he did a very good job protecting you all. I can't imagine something like that as I have had mine only 2 weeks, I don't think I could keep my spirits up as you are. Here is to a speedy recovery and to a new MINI Son of a Gunner.

R.I.P. - Gunner

A few months ago an unoccupied car rolled into the side of my unoccupied 03 MC in a parking lot. A relatively small dent in the drivers door, and behind the door on the rear quarter panel, cost $1950 to fix at a local body shop.

Looking at your MINI I'd say it almost certainly is totaled.

Glad you're OK and keep us posted on what's going on.

First, sorry to hear about your accident and I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt.

Here's a pic of my MINI that was totalled, I think because there was more mechanical/engine damage than cosmetic. Fortunately for me, the other driver was well insured and was able to get me into a new one.

I just showed the picture of the accident to a COWorker who drives a early 90s vintage Caddy. Earlier today he made the typical safety comments about the MINI. The pictures from the accident shut him up. Thanks for sharing.

glad that you both came out of the wreck in relatively good shape. i too, recently was in a wreck in my 06 RG MCS. mine was a totaled and had what looks to be far less damage than yours. at first, they were going to repair it.... but on further review, called it a total loss. i went to my dealer the next day and ordered my new one. maybe your new MINI and mine will be on the same ship coming over. i, too, came out of the crash in good shape. i ached a little the next day, but at my age, i ache on a lot of days. best wishes for speedy recoveries and a fast return to the motoring lifestyle. -greg

No slip at all. The guy(s) are as dull and unimainative as can be. To give you an idea, they are so bland they would make a vanilla wafer look like a Vindaloo (Indian curry)

No, the guy who hit me was in a HUGE Chevy 2500 pickup truck. Although his vehicle wasn't nearly as damaged, it still wasn't drivable.

This guy, with his view blocked by a city bus, made an illegal, unprotected left-hand turn and ran into oncoming traffic, me.

worst day ever

So glad to know that you are good to go. Wrecks suck, and I can understand the feeling of losing gunner after only 2months.
Here's a crappy picture of two pictures of pepper after his wreck. He was t-boned when an '02 civic ran her stop sign. Only at around 20 mph. This was offically one month after buying him. My only wreck thus far and hopefully ever. Sadly pepper wasn't totaled. I really did think he would be though. I dont know why. It turned out to be $12,344 in repairs and over $1500 in rental crap. She didn't have proof of insurance with her at the time (even though she was insured) she ran the sign, and her car wasn't registered, and she got no tickets at all. Freakin gay Utah cops suck. Sry if you're a UT cop (not really). Anyway, I'm glad you're okay. I went to the hospital but they couldn't help my broken heart. jerks...

SPADE...could you elaborate on your accident? If she did not have proof of her insurance, but did have insurance, wouldn't her insurance still pay your insurance? If she wasn't registered, how could the police have not held that against her?? After your car was repaired, is it now just as it was before the accident? How could she not have gotten a ticket....maybe she was a wife of one of the policemen?

We're so glad everyone walked away from this one! Gunnar gets the Mini MOH for this one.

I'm curious about the company doing the estimate for your insurance company. They may be preferred by your insurer, but do you have the right to take your car anywhere? I would certainly get an estimate from BMW/Mini for the repairs.

A car can be replaced... you can't... good to see all is well....it's an "experience" when in an accident it all happens in S L O W motion... You try to explain the sensation to someone.. but it's hard concept to understand until you experience it yourself....
