R50/53 A Real Street Race
A Real Street Race
What is it about kids who think their car is one hot item and want to pick on some poor limp **** MINI with some senior citizen in it all the time?
Yesterday as many times before, driving home from work, a Honda, Subaru, Toyota or what ever with one of the exhaust pipes you can drive a Mack Truck in to and rear wing a 767 couldn’t use pulls up next to me at a light. This time it was a Honda with three kids, late teens or early 20’s. I had been ahead of this person for a few miles on the open road, but now we had pulled in to the town area to a light and the road was still open for some mile or more ahead of us until the next light.
My windows were down and the kid driving yells at me to get it on with him. After looking around the street ahead I nod back for him to get it on, using the words “you go for it” and we start revving our engines at each other.
As the light turned green you couldn’t see anything but smoke from the tires off the line. I’m mounting new tires this week so I don’t mind a burn out on bald tires. Anyway back to the action.
The smoke billowing from the two cars the Honda takes off like a shot and I precede only doing the speed limit after laying some smoke.
I forgot to mention as he was eyeing me to race I noticed the police car about two blocks ahead in a driveway.
As the Honda flew by the cop, the lights went on.
I passed as they were being pulled over, going the speed limit and just shrugged I win because it’s obvious he lost at least 5 points from his license.
When will they ever learn that you don’t ever beat old farts at a game they have been playing for years!

Let's see:
Tire burn outs - check.
Exhibition of speed - check.
Challenging, or accepting a challenge from another driver - check.
Legal consequences - check.
Chest thumping claim of victory - check.
Definitely sounds like street racing.
IBTL.

kids need to learn the hard way. then they understand, i suppose.
i watch as my son falls off the toy kitchen set that i keep telling him
not to use as a foot step because he'll fall. well, looks like he won't
be doing that any more.
and yes, IBFTL.
spinning wheels on public roads is reckless driving (?)

I don't understand why you would smoke the tires? Even if they were bald, you still could have been pulled over...
Oh yeah...

I'm in a 2 MINI family; I was out of the country for a few months and my dad loved my MINI so much that he trick out his own- had it built and delivered just before I got home.
So the family was out at dinner and we had both cars with us and "raced" home at about 25 mph parading down the street, until we got to a light. I start revving and staring him down . . . Dad peels-out!
I was laughing so hard that I could barely drive the rest of the way home.
ib4tl . . . don't lock me
Yep - two guidelines broken here:
The very first line contains inappropriate language.
In most jurisdictions, "burning rubber" (or simply squealing tires) is viewed as "display of speed", and quite illegal. I have no pity on the kid though, he clearly got what he deserved by the cop up ahead, but I am quite surprised that both drivers were not pulled over after the antics at the light.

UPDATE: And draggonmann squeaks in JUST in time... LOL.
