Very true. I'll be the first to admit my 115 hp MC is faster than I was capable of driving it (63.403 above

I have an MC and it's great in the city with more power than you'll need, now if you do a lot of highway driving I'd suggest the MCS, the extra gear and a little more power would be nice on the highway.
Well, thanks for all the info. For some reason, my last reply didn't go through??? Anyway, I still think I'm gona stick with the MC for price, gas/milage and if I do get the need for more power, it seems like modding this baby to get a little more power wouldn't be a problem...

I would suggest driving a MCS and a MC back to back along the same route to see which you like better based on your driving style and the types of roads you drive.
I like the way my MCS drives, handles and rides, even with the 17" rims and run flats. Plus the supercharger whine is pretty awesome to listen to
Dude, I thought I was only gonna like MCS< but I was so surprised when I drove WINSTON the PARTYBUS for the first time, I Knew I must have it, it is 30mpg fun as hell, and looks from everyone..... Theres no downside go MC!

Also, I sould have mentioned this in the begining. If I end up getting the S it will be striped... If I stick with the non S, I get my sunroof, xenon lights, 17" wheels, winter package/heated seats, auto lights, auto wipers and the auto air.
I'm in pretty much the same boat.
I had a S before, and had to get rid of it for financial reasons. I'm back to where I can get another mini, and I'm going MC.
I love to autocross, and unless I would add the lsd to the S, which makes it even more expensive, the MC is just about as fast, and MORE competitive given the classing differences.
plus, I think a MC with aero kit is the best looking of the bunch. (and I see a sale for aero kits right now....)

based on your statements, i recommend getting a standard cooper. I dont think the looks of a bonnet scoop warrants the $2500 premium in price if that was the only item.
The cooper is a wonderful car with all the charm and charisma with the added benefits. the cooper shoudl have a more comfortable and compliant ride versys the MCS, offers better fuel economy, lends for some extra money for options like the Aerokit or other accessories.
I think you'll be happier with Cooper than the S. sounds like you'll be enjoying a cooper sooner than you would an S given the west coast delivery times... good luck

I'm getting a regular Cooper with a few upgrades for a few reasons. First off, my budget. I wanted to add a few extras to it, and the S was already out of my price range at bare bones. I also realised a lot of the 'standard' stuff on the S that isn't on the base I really don't want or need. Second, gas mileage. I currently have a Honda Civic and like good gas mileage! Third, the ride - I test drove the S and found it a lot more rough and I didn't like the ride as much as the base.
Overall, I'm a handling guy not a horsepower guy, so to me it was easy to pick. I don't mind extra horsepower, but it's not a deciding factor. I prefered to have a few options on the base than a bare-bones S.
However, if you DO get a base cooper, make sure you upgrade to the sport seats - the regular ones are pretty uncomfortable and don't really hold you in I think.

One thing I particularly like about MINI, unlike the parent company and most every other car company out there, if you don't get the absolutely top of the line model, your MINI does not look cheapened.
Have you looked at a base model 3 series vs say a 330? or a V6'd Mustang vs a Mustang GT?
A Cooper looks just as good as a Cooper S. For the extra money, you get the extra gear, supercharger, stiffer suspension etc. Certainly value for money, but if you get a Cooper, MINI does not decontent and cheapen the interior to make you feel like crap for not going top of the line.
Now go buy your MINI and show us some pictures!

It's slightly confusing... I know the cabrios are a whole different problem. But, for the hardtops, the MCS comes standard with sports suspension plus. The Cooper comes standard with sports suspension. You can upgrade a Cooper to sports suspension plus and it will have the same suspension as an S.
The more suspension components you are likely to change after you buy the car, the less it makes sense to get SS+ on a Cooper. If you're just going to change the rear swaybar, I think it's a toss up on if the SS+ upgrade is worth it. If you go further than that (any of springs, dampers, front swaybar) it's not worth getting the SS+ IMHO.

Drove a PS/B MC for 3 years. Loved it, never even test drove an S. I agree that the MC looks much sleeker w/out the scoop. I put an aero grill on the stock front end and loved the look. The gas mileage rocked. That being said, I had the means and so now drive a full JCW CR/W MCS. I love the power, and the sound of the supercharger, and though I'll miss the mileage, it's still no SUV. When folks driving 500 hp rides still love their MINI's as much or more, kind of make the case for the little tyke, eh?
