Earlier this evening I decided to take the long way home. I ended up exploring where a road I'd been on before, but only went so far. Turns out Cave Creek road gets really fun about 5-10 miles outside of Cave Creek, AZ.

Just on the other side of where a new golf course is being built, the road turned into MINI heaven.

Tight twisties! Switch backs. Rises and dips. Varying radius turns.

Boy, oh boy, I let her fly!!

Then after a few exhilarating miles, the road turned to dirt/gravel. That's where I turned around. But before I decided to go back the other way, I parked in a turnout to admire the view and take a deep breath. Exhilaration!

Coming up from the dirt and gravel section, a work truck followed by a small Honda passed me. The Honda's driver was paying so much attention to my MCS that he went into the ditch for a few feet!! Caught ya, you rubber-necker!!

So I let those two motor on back up the road for a couple minutes. I took off and motored thru the twisties and quickly caught up.

Whew! That was fun.

Then to my surprise, just two or three miles after leaving the twisties, a mirror image of my MCS went the way I just came from. I waved a happy arm out the window. I bet he was headed for those twisties as well

Dominic, that sounds great. I'm in search of a similar road in my area.

I love to hear about those happy motoring experiences!

For those of you in Germany, Try the road to Frankensteins Castle outside of Eberstadt
By the way it's pronounced Fronkonsteen

There are a variety of roads around me here in Oregon which have lots of turns w/ tight radii. I have an MC w/ sports package, which includes the 16" run-flats and the all-important sports seats (love 'em!). As I'm sure most MINI motorers know, the 35 mph signs are almost ignorable- come down a wee bit for them initially and then power through. The 20 or 25 mph signs always make me smile-some of them are for real, while others are imposters. Nothing like slowing to 50 mph and then accelerating through to the next one, whilst working gears up and down like a madman- can't have much more fun behind the wheel than that

Almost everywhere in OR is good motoring! My favorites are HWY 199 down into CA. And way up northern OR, try Silver Falls State Park just outside of Silverton for some awesome motoring.

You want twistys? Check The Shannonville Motorsports Park Track. Scroll down the page to the Nelson Track.

How does that look? It's the track of choice for those of us gatheringhere!

Hey, dominicminicoopers- I've got spring break ahead, and I haven't been to Silver Falls for ages, so I'll be headed that way at some point soon. Thanks for the advice. There are so many small outlying areas in central Oregon w/ approach roads full of 25 and 35 mph curves, you could go all day and not hit a straight longer than a 1/4 mile. The little run from Triangle Lake to Mapleton is awesome. MINI heaven for sure.

Dominicminicoopers:

it's not out of town, its very short, and you might have to go slower, but also try the road in the park next to the Phoenix Zoo. curves, hills, a fun little detour if you are in the area.

But I love that drive, too. We discovered it while taking my wife's new car (not a mini) for an inagural drive a while back.

You mean the road between Papago park and the Zoo? I don't remember many hills on it. I used to Mountain Bike occasionally at Papago.

Come out for a fun drive with me sometime. It'd be a blast.

I planning on trying the road up South Mountain. I know I can't go fast becuase of all the potential foot, bike, bicycle and auto traffic. But it'd be fun never the less and the view from the top is awesome. I haven't been up there since 1988 or so. So a trip down ol' memory lane should be fun!
