Are you going to have to park your's on the street? The Mini is certainly great being so small that it fits into way more spots - but those NY streets can be tough.
I once had a Honda CRXsi, really fun car. I parked it in a nice spot, came out the next morning and it had been moved down 4 or 5 spots. Could have been a bunch of drunk college guys having some fun. No damage was done but it was kind of odd. A Mini is much heavier so I doubt anything like that would ever happen.
