question

i hope that this hasn't been posted already, but i purchased a used MINI Cooper S (love it!) and i just realized that when they did their used car inspection they changed the oil (before it really needed it). i understand that they do this with all their used vehicles so no big deal. well i started thinking (which normally i overthink EVERYTHING) and i first got worried that they may have been stupid and did not use synthetic oil. well since i work at the dealership i was able to have them pull it and they used mobil one synthetic. i was relieved at this, but then i began to wonder if that would void my existing warranty. does anyone know anything about this?

thank you

No warranty issues with Mobil One. They 'recommend' Castrol, but the requirements are just API SH spec, 5W-40 and 5W-30 per page 99 of the manual.

It won't void your warranty...as long as it's fully synthetic oil being used the brand is up to you. Lots of people here use Mobile 1 synthetic.

Redline and Royal Purple are also popular on these forums.

Cooper(non-s) Hit the nail on the head. It has to be a fully synthetic motor oil.
