'06 airbag stickers

I just tried the same goo-gone technique I used on my '03 MINI to try to remove the sunvisor airbag stickers on my new anthracite headliner '06 MINI, thinking it would be as easy as the first time, and man- they just don't want to come off! I rubbed and rubbed w/ a goo-gone soaked paper towel, and the suckers just don't want to shrivel and peel. Has anyone had success in taking the visors off, and do you have a pic showing how?? I can't get to the screws, since the base of the swivel has both screw holes covered w/ plugs, and it seems that no screwdriver can get them to pop off w/out damaging the plastic. Argghh, having had no problem before, I thought this would be a piece of cake to do!

Also acetone (nail polish remover). I got mine off with that and a cotton ball but remember that it seemed to take 20 minutes each of rubbing before the stickers started to disintegrate. They are rubberized and will roll off eventually. You will unfortunately see a slightly shiny spot where the stickers used to be - but it is not very noticeable.

The sticker on the dash can almost be peeled off - and goo gone works fine for that one.

I covered both of mine with the MINI CD holder - looks great and practical, too.

I used the Frau's Hair Dryer to heat them up, then used a butter knife to lightly "Scrape" them up and off. Goo-Gone helped get the last bit of residue off

I took the airbag stickers off my 06's visor with denatured alcohol. Took the visors off the car first, so I didn't need to worry about getting the alcohol anywhere I didn't want it to be. I pried out the screw covers out with a very small screwdriver, I think that they had clips on all of the flat sides. Then take out the screws, unplug the electrical wiring and they're out.

To actually take the stickers off, I folded up a paper towel so it was just bigger than the sticker, and soaked it in the denatured alcohol. Then, let it sit on top of the sticker for a while...probably 15 minutes or so...until the sticker shrivels up. Then, I started at a corner and genly peeled the sticker off. Try to get it off in as few pieces as possible.... on the second visor, the sticker only wanted to peel partway off, so I folded it back and let it soak under the paper towel a little longer. After I got the sticker off, I soaked the area a little more to loosen up the residual adhesive. Then with some rubbing, with another paper towel soaked in the denatured alcohol took off the adhesive. When I was done, I wiped the visors off with some soapy water, and treated them with some interior vinyl protectant.

They turned out pretty well.... just a little shadow where the sticker had been.

I solved the issue by creating stickers which fit over them.

Here is the one for the passenger side:

And this is the one for the driver's side, but could easily by used on the passenger side too:

MIB has one of these. Just slightly larger than the air bag sticker. See my gallery... My Mother-inlaw loves it!

How does the wiring unplug? There doesn't seem to be any pinch-type tab release or anything else obvious.

bump...

Come on, I know lots of people have done this. Why the heck are there wires going to the freaking visor anyway? What if I just snip them? What'll happen then? Will it fry my ECU and void my warranty? Will I lose the capability of enabling "automatic visors" in the future?

I think the airbags deploy immediately when you cut that wire. Do your visors have vanity lights in them? If so, I suspect they won't light up so well after you cut the wires.

Wish I could help with your underlying question.

Oh yeah. Sorry, my brain is just fried this week.

All I know is, I've read dozens of posts here about people removing the visors to get the stickers off, so I'm puzzled by the difficulty of getting an answer to this question... I'll go try another search.

OK, I found this thread, in which Rick-Anderson says "Carefully disconnect the wire connector – they pull apart with no clips."

I guess I'll try again when I get home.

Grin sticker

Moskito - I love the grin! Who made the actual stickers for you? I'd love one of those.

Anyway, I eventually pulled the wires apart, but the ones on the drivers side were REALLY hard to pull apart. I actually used so much force that I assumed I was going to break it (didn't care at that point), and they finally came apart.

I used a paper towel soaked in denatured alcohol, folded to the size of the sticker - slightly larger, actually. Even replenishing the alcohol periodically so keep it moist, it took a full hour for the sticker to bubble up enough to get it off, and even then it didn't just peel off like others have said. I got a few pieces off that were an inch or so long, but mostly it came up in tiny pieces, and I ended up using my thumbnail to scrape it off. It also left behind a substantial residue that the denatured alcohol was powerless against, so I used Goof Off to finish the job.

All in all a major pain in the ***, but I suppose it's worth it. I just wanted to post this to let people know it's not necessarily as easy as other posts make it sound. I don't know if this is because my car is a year old, so they had more time to bake on there, or what.

I made the mistake of rubbing a paper towel soaked with denatured alcohol over the sticker a bit, which took off the lettering and spread dingy small black specks across the porous surface of the visor. I realized what was happening and then just let the sticker soak in the stuff and eventually got the sticker off. But now where my sticker was, I've got a dingy shadow of tiny black specks. Anybody know a good way to get rid of these? I tried scrubbing with a nylon brush and soap (also tried the same + toothpaste). Neither really cleaned it up. I left the passenger sticker on after this experience.

I definitely wouldn't recommend attempting this with the non-anthracite headliner. Luckily mine is dark, because I probably have those same black specks. You might try a more powerful solvent such as Goof-Off, but I have no idea of it would work, and how many of these chemicals do you really want to purchase and have hanging around just to get rid of some silly stickers? Good luck!
