Just buy the cabrio like I did - no problems !!!

Seriously, at 6'2", 32" inseam the car seems almost too large inside for me. If I put the seat too far down or too far back, I feel like there is too much space in front of me to drive safely - and I don't have it anywhere near the end of the seat track. I recently drove with a workmate who has three inches and 40 pounds on me and he fit perfectly in the front passenger seat - he was giddy about how much fun it was and how comfortable the ride was. Of course, with two moderately heavyweights in the front seat, I lost a bit of my snappy performance off the mark, but oh well.....

The other thing about the cabrio you might consider - for tall people, the innovative "sunroof" mode gives you a sunroof (as well as topless mode) with very little if any sacrifice in ceiling height. Over the years I have rejected many Toyotas and Nissans because any sunroof-equipped car meant that my head was centimeters from the roof - and often touching. The sunroof on the cabrio curls back, with the flap going up and back - so there is no loss in ceiling height.

All in all, a the MINI is certainly a "secret solution" for tall people wanting a real performance car in smaller dimensions....

TooTall here too. A little over 6'10", maybe 6'11" on a good day, 230 or so the other way, 38" inseam (40" for my beloved BUT DISCONTINUED 501's, thanks for nothin' Levi Strauss). I fit great, but nobody likes sitting behind me. However some have, on occasion, done so. I could even have done a sunroof, but passed because I liked the integrity of the solid roof.

SDDave, glad you remembered that thread. I still have to get a picture of me sitting in it on here sometime...

OT on the next big Meet, we should get all the people 6'4" and over who drive MINIs/Minis to do a short video. Something like they all drive up, park in a line, and then get out of their cars. Just to show how big they are inside. I think it would look cool if there were four or more involved.

Maybe this should go in the random thought thread.

Yep. I'm 6'4", long legs, tiny head (self defecating humor). I brace my knee on the steering column in turns. The most annoying thing is looking at traffic lights (there is a fresnel lens thing available). And then answering the question "how do you fit?" all the time is next.

I'm also 6'4" and there's pleanty of room left (maybe not for the person behind me). I just wish the pedals were a bit farther away or the wheel and gearshift were closer.

I think a person's comfort level would top out around 7'0" or so, but of course it depends on the individual. I let a guy at work who's about 7'3" try it and he had issues with the center console and steering wheel, although headroom-wise he was fine.

BTW the picture is me and Blooper, I just thought cutting my head off was funny - it's how I appear in a lot of family snaps too. Driving a MINI, although very practical, also appeals to my sense of humor. Many people tell me it made their day to see me just getting out of the car.

Good Picture ! At least you got the whole car in !
did you mean self decapitating and self deprication Humour ?

Your comment about not being able to see the light is also a pet peave of mine.. .I have figured out that glancing out the side window i can often see the trafic signal on the left side of the intersection.

I usually just get closer and look through the sunroof....people may think you're asleep or imitating Ray Charles, but at least you can see the traffic light without hunching over.

George Foreman, former champion boxer, 6' 3" 250lbs+ drives a MINI...
I'm 6'1" (not *that* tall)... If I put the seat all the way back, I can't drive the car. The room (headroom too) is amazing. My Dad who's 6' 2" was amazed at the amount of spaciousness when he drove it.

Q: How do you get into that thing (my 911)?
A: Mostly I use the door.

How about a 2-meter mini owner's club? (2m = 6 feet 6 and 3/4 inches)

TooTall: Amen on Levis, but thank goodness for the 38 inseam anyway.

What should we have in our emblem? A redwood tree? Paul Bunyan? Just a basketball or volleyball with Two Meter Minis across it? A ladder with the international "no" sign over the top?

When I'm full of s***, it's deficating.
I am now looking out the side if there is a light on the left corner, but it can't be left turn only (duh).
I suggest the emblem to be stretched vertically.

I don't know about a commercial, but here's Dirk Nowitski in his MCS:

Even The Mini Isn't Big Enough!

Well, I test drove a Mini today. With the seat all the way back and down, actually touching the back seat, I had *almost* enough legroom--not quite. My legs still touched the steering wheel. I told the saleswoman that I'm 6'5", and she thinks I'm taller than that--more like 6'6". That isn't really the problem, though; the problem is that too much of my height is in my legs.

Aside from that, I love the car. Very fun to drive. The saleswoman invited me to corner hard and fast and I did--WOW! Really fun. When we were out on a long stretch I glanced at the speedometer and realized I was going 70 in a 45 zone.

After I played with the Mini ("drove the Mini" just wouldn't be an accurate description), I went to a VW dealership and sat in a New Beetle. It was maybe a little roomier than the Mini--not by much.

The lady at the Mini dealership told me it might be possible to have the back seat completely taken out and the seat tracking extended. She gave me the # of the mechanic at the dealership so I could ask him. I'll call him sometime this week.

Are you sure you had the seat pumped all the way down? I'm 6'7" and my legs don't come very close to the sterring wheel. My right leg does hit the down tube though.

I'm a lowly 6'2 but I fit better in the MINI than I do in my current GTO, and that was with the sunroof! My roommate is 6'5 and he fit in the MINI just fine but has some trouble in the GTO (he has to recline the seat).

It's deceptively big inside. Play with the controls and make it work. I always had my seat pumped all the way down, and if that doesn't work you can always get a racing seat that sits lower, like I did! Loved that sparco...

Yeah, something's wrong and I would suspect it's seat height too. I'm quite a bit taller than you and have no trouble whatsoever. The other thing to check is if the steering wheel was all the way up.

spine wise we are all nearly equal... the differences are mostly in our limbs. As long as you feel comfortable with the pedals, i am sure the rest will be fine. good luck

Lots of tall people here

I have one suggestion (from a 5'10" guy) and that's if you live in a northern climate and wear boots it can get tricky with the pedals. So you may want to bring along a pair to try it out with them as well. Just a tip.

What the seat height affects is the angle of your thighs and where they are in relationship to the steering wheel. It makes a big difference. Your spine theory may or may not be true but is affected by other attributes such as scoliosis. I had a friend who gained 3" after surgery to correct his curvature.

Our feet are usually too big to even consider driving with boots on. Here in 'the other Rochester' I just wear tennis shoes year-round, unless I am going ice-fishing. Then it's time for the big guys. I don't take the MCS ice fishing...

I can believe that your legs were touching with it pumped down all the way. I'm 6'7 and I think if I were even a half inch taller I wouldn't have gotten a MINI. Mainly because of the width and the downtube, not necessarily knee-to-dash room. I never move the wheel, it has been all the way up since I bought it, I don't know if I have ever moved it at all. If it were any lower, I'd be in trouble too.

Like I said, it's odd how we can all be so tall and fit differently. I was very comfortable in a GTO, more comfortable than in a MINI due to the width. Also found a 4Runner and Escape very roomy.

Thanks!! Yet sometimes I do feel that old!
Yep, I'm 6'8" with a 36 " inseam. More comfortable in the MINI thn I was in my last car, a 1990 Nissan Maxima. Although I can't stretch my legs out enough for a proper "heel and toe", I am able to "roll" my foot over to blip the throttle while still on the brake.
Enjoy!!

Gentlemen, the traffic light solution you are looking for is the LightInSight. It's only $12.50 plus shipping, and worth EVERY penny. I'm not as tall as most of you (I'm 6'1"), but I love mine, and can't recommend it enough!
