I had the same problem on my 02-s last year, it was covered by warranty.

 

I would not have paid the dealer to fix....If it's on my dime, I'll take it to an independant shop that works on MINI's (they are popping up all over the place now). I would rather develop a relationship with a private mechanic than give that money to the stealership..
