Yes, they are made by Mercedes and it has a three cyle engine.
Yes, I know. The company I work for was actually involved in pitching the Smart account back in 2004 before DCX went and started waffling.

That was what piqued my interest. First, seeing a Smart driving around within a mile of my house. Second, seeing it badged as a Mercedes.

I've been to Europe three times in the past five years, seen probably hundreds of Smart cars, and never once seen one wearing a Mercedes badge.

The only conclusion I ever drew was that maybe it was being used for dealer evaluations, before bidding on the franchises.

We saw a Smart Car on I-5 as it was heading south out of Sacramento, yesterday. Looks like something I morphed in Photoshop!

I don't think there's any similarities between Mini and Smart Car owners. Smart Car and electric Hybrid owners maybe.

Had to take the Mrs. to Paris for her birthday. Saw tons of Smarts. (do the math, that's a LOT of cars. ) We took some photos of Smarts and Minis parked together, and if I can find them, I'll try and post. Makes the Mini look huge, altho the Smart is taller. Now she wants one, which is great if that will get her to quit driving Rodan. We could probably park both in the same garage space! Looking for a lead on a US roadable one. There is at least one here in Las Vegas which I saw a few months back. Not understanding why the US version will cost $25K when the Canadian/European one is ( I think) $13K or so. Some expensive running lights.

I've seen at least five Smart cars since I've been in Seattle. A local place was even doing a contest and giving away quite a few of them. I guess that's to be expected in Seattle though, I don't think there are many cars that I haven't seen since I've been here.

MADHATTER on post #7 said something about the Smart City Car....does Smart make a model with that name? The reason why I ask is 2 years ago my wife and I went to Amsterdam and we saw a City Car and the owner had just come from the dealer and he gave me a brochure...it looks like a Smart Car...but even smaller! I think the top end was only 35 mph and has a 3 cycle lawn mower engine...which is actually made by Briggs and Stratton!! I know I have the brochure lying around someplace but there is no connecton I know of between The CityCar and the Smart..has anyone heard of this?

Just dug out the brochure....it is in Dutch!!! the company is 'minicruiser'...they make several models...'The City' is their lowest model...1 cylinder Briggs and Stratton engine, top end 40kph (30 mph)..their three other models are much more powerful...2 cylinders and top end 45 kph (35 mph?)

web site is: www.minicruiser.nl cute lil car, but would hate to drive it on the Mass Pike ....anyone seen it??

I have to disagree. The original owner of my MINI traded it in on a SMART car. She made me one of the happiest people on the planet.

Smart Cars are a gimmick. Sure they are cute and attract attention right now, but would you want to be stuck with a 3 yr old 3-cylinder car with a top speed of 65mph and 60,000miles on the odo? After the initial fun factor wears off, your stuck with a slow cramped underpowered overpriced unsellable albatross 'round your neck.

And yes, Mini owners are just... Smarter, touching that key gives the owner a one time boost of 100 IQ points!
