Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad that you're ok. The MINI held up well...

Hopefully you choose another MINI... good luck with whatever you decide! Thanks for sharing your story. I have a MINI on order and often wonder how it will hold up in a crash. Seeing your pics and reading the story it makes me feel a little better...

You can look it up yourself:
Kelly Blue Book
NADA
Edmund's

Insurance adjusters are looking out for the best interests of their company:
If you settle for a low amount without hassle, that's their best scenario.
But it's also in their best interests to settle the claims quickly without incurring extra handling cost to their companies, so they'll work with you if you politely refuse their lowball #s and insist on current market values.

I'd have to strip all the mods off though :( Won't gain a ton selling those.

Ok, Off-topic question: So the Schroth harnesses replace the OEM belts and latch to the rear seat latches (for the driver and passenger)? So wouldn't that not allow you to run the Schtoth harnesses and passengers in the back? Sorry if I'm wrong, any help would be nice!

Oh, and I've heard MANY times that you should not wear racing harnesses while street driving? Are the Schroth harnesses different because they are not 5-point? So would these harnesses fair better than OEM belts for daily driving?

Isn't is surreal how you're in this nasty, horrible wreck and walk away feeling strangely impressed and pleased at how your MINI did? Happened to me!

Dang man, sorry to hear (and see) that happened. Thankfully you're OK. The MINI may never drive again, but you will.

I second what has been said a couple times already - consider litigation. And I hope the other driver received a huge ticket.

Wow - I'm so glad that you are OK. That's looks scarry...

Be sure to get checked out by your GP and any specialists that he/she might recommend, probably before the end of next week. Get their opinions in writing.

Also, no matter what the insurance outcome is, destroy and/or replace the driver's harness - they are one time use safety devices and I bet that if you removed and compared the driver's and passenger's harnesses you would find a shocking length difference. Even if you leave it in the car when they take it away, cut the driver's one in half, each side. You don't want to have something like that on your mind in the future in case it gets sold to someone. The harness did it's job - and Schroth might be interested in the outcome (and may want to swap you a new one so that they can document how well it did )

You know, I'm thinking more and more about that flashing CHMSL thing every time I see a story like this... not that it would help a boneheaded driver like in your case. Amazing story!

OUCH! Glad you made it out with relatively minor injuries.
Re: the floor buckling, yes, you have some structural damage. Make sure that whoever writes the estimate, writes to replace those structural parts, not repair them. Those parts are made of high-strength steel (HSS) and are not made to be repaired like mild steel. Some shops will attempt to use heat to soften them up for repair and that kills the temper of the steel.
Hope the earlier poster was wrong about the amount of repair, as you'll need to be somewhere around 50% ACV in repair costs to get it totalled.

ps: your user-name leads me to believe that I know you from another forum; THR or XD perhaps?

THR? XD? I'm on MiniNEO for North East Ohio, and I am on Subguns.com, a MG group website... Not sure where else.

Well, so far without looking really hard at prices, I've put roughly 32,500 into the car. I think I am going to get a lawyer, because I want every penny back. It's completely her fault, if it wasn't for the accident, I'd probably have at least 5 more years and much more enjoyment out of my Mini. I'm going to throw in the damn kitchen sink if I can; whatever it takes to get everything back without losing money in the process.

I've been told to even put in installation prices on stuff that I did myself, so I have a total price of what it would cost to have a car exactly like mine, brand new. I'm hoping that will work. I still have to wait for the two adjustors tomorrow.

One thing I'm sure her insurance will be overjoyed to know, when they get there, is that my neck and upper back are SERIOUSLY sore today... I really doubt it's anything really bad, just mild whiplash from getting nailed at 55... I tend to have the seats back because I slouch, but I sit straight up and down, so there's a bit of space between my upper back and the seat.

If her adjustor comes tomorrow, I think I'm going to tell them give me 35k and I'll forget about it... any lower and they can talk to my lawyer.

Keep an eye on your soreness. There could be latent issues that won't pop up until somewhere down the line. And you should definitely retain a lawyer. Not only for your personal injury, but for car matters as well (as you stated).

Good luck, and keep us updated.

that is def more than $8,000 of damage. I got hit in the front by someone like that, slower speeds, and the left wheel and suspension and bumper were damaged.

in the end, $10,000

I dont think I can answer all your questions but I have the schroth 3 point harnesses (not the MINI specific ones) and I can still have passengers in my backseat. I didnt have to remove them.

As for wearing the harnesses while street driving, I wouldnt necessarily depend on them for all my safety. Besides, that stupid seat ding will ring constantly if you dont hook it up.

when I autocross I use both belts
