I have tried, in vain for the last year to find ONE, just one, documented case of a MINI being stolen without the key or not being towed and can't find one. The car has been stolen with the valet key in the GB.... duh.

Whoa.. ragedmx...what happened to you MINI? The photo in your sig seems to show some black paint leakage from the bottom up? Is that intentional? Mmm, I need more info...
PS you're officially in the "I have enough of this thread" camp, so stop reading... (if you can...[to the music of the twilight zone...])
cheers, phil

Being as I had caller ID, I did a reverse phone directory seach, and scared the crap out of the caller when I returned his call...I gave him his name, his adress , his phone number, his driver's license (not just his tag #) and told him if he didn't stop bothering me, he would have me and my buddies (boys in blue) at his door...I hadn't heard from him since. Point made.
I have the resources available to me, and I do not misuse them...it can be so-o-o tempting and it is so-o-o easy to invade another person's space...I have been entrusted not to. So, I will have to decline your invite, sorry if I disappoint you.... Mick

I don't blur my own plate in my gallery, but I usually blur out everyone else's plate for privacy reasons. If their plate is blurred, I feel much more comfortable posting their pics on the internet without permission...
To me it's like a social security number. Just because it's a public record type thing, doesn't mean you need to go flashing it all over the place. No harm in blurring plates, it's pretty simple, doesn't usually take away from the overall picture, and everyone goes home happy.

In CA, you can no longer go to the DMV with a tag number, and get information.
Those sites that offer to track down the owners of plates, can only do so if a govt agency allows them access. Many states are tightly controlling plate info because of stalkers, etc.

You got me dustinhxc! I was looking over the "Recent Posts" and saw this thread ... read the whole d*$& thing and then looked at the timestamps on the post...
... anyway, I don't blur my plates either, I have to wait 8 - 10 weeks for them to get here

When I post photos of OTHER people's car, I blur out the plate out of politeness. Plus, I like the aesthetics of not having the letters to distract from the car. Actually, I prefer NO plate if I could manage that, but it's not practical most times.
I don't normally blank out vanity plates (including my own) because I figure that person was wanting the world to see that little message anyway...
I don't think plate-blanking is in any way paranoid, but a little anonymity can be a nice thing. I don't see anything wrong with it. Oh, and I did once get a copy of a letter from an insurance company who cancelled one of my customer's auto policy because his car was seen (and identified by the license plate) IN THE PARKING LOT of a drag strip.
Does your plate frame say: "If you can read this plate, turn me over" ?

I always wondered why people blur too, I understand with folks under waranty that put their MINIs in Auto-x, track days, time trials, etc not wanting MINI NA to know and somehow void warrranty. I only post frontal pics of track dayys, although there is a you tube video that has my cars rear plates until the car in front of me gives me a wave bye.
You Bet!
I've had more fun with that stupid plate . . . Next time we make it to Albuquerque, I'll let you know. We have to get a picture of the cars together. We visit NM for fun every couple of years. Last time, Mar 05, we were there for the great blizzard and got snowed-in at the Marriott Pyramid for 3 days. The lady in the concierge lounge got pretty sick of me eating all the chicken tenders . . . woo hoo.

I blur because others have....no other reason I suppose.
Speaking of that "Blizzard"....I was moving to San Antonio that very evening the snow started. I lived off of Indian School and Tramway and at 2am it was just barely drizzling at the time. We had the Navigator flat towing my 93 Jeep and the wife and dogs were in her Liberty. We made it past an 18 wheeler in the process of jack knifing (lucky us) and continued on past Tijeras and Edgewood. We must have been the last cars through....made it to Clines Corners after 5 Hours!!!! State trooper said 285 was open to Roswell and cleared up there so we headed out. 20 hours later we pulled into San Antonio.....not good.
So after all that we are now back in NM permanently.
Just brought back some memories of March 2005!!!!! Glad that trip is in the rear view mirror!
