AMVIV -Phil Wicks - pre inspection

Has anyone that is doing the Driving Academy had their car "pre inspected" yet ?

Where are you going to get this done?
What have you been charged?

My local auto repair place just didn't "get it"!

"Leave the car for the day" ... "We will charge by the hour" ... Oh "I have to SIGN something"...

The paperwork says The shop inspector is not held liable for the saftey of this vehicle
BUT ... The inspector needs to STAMP it ???

I don't want to show up unprepaired and have BS to deal with

I just got an email - really - while I was typing the pre-edited reply - telling me I don't need a shop inspection -
"...and a tech form to use as a checklist to prepare your car. There is no need to go to a mechanic for the tech form if you are attending the driving academy. We will tech the car for you either on Friday at the hotel or bright and early at the track on Saturday. Please try to have your registration and tech done at the hotel. It makes everything easier on the day of the event."

So there we are. I got an email advising of the need for a shop inspection as well, so you were not alone in
your percieved tech inspection dilema!
See you there!!
Peter

Thanks and here is a copy of the email...

Only a few days left. I sent an e-mail out a couple of weeks ago, but some of you had not received it. So I am sending it again. It includes general instructions about the day, a basic rule book, a helmet release form (bring the signed form with you to registration), and a tech form to use as a checklist to prepare your car. There is no need to go to a mechanic for the tech form if you are attending the driving academy. We will tech the car for you either on Friday at the hotel or bright and early at the track on Saturday. Please try to have your registration and tech done at the hotel. It makes everything easier on the day of the event.

Everyone must have a helmet. If you do not have one and do not know of one you can borrow, please let me know ASAP. We have a limited number available for rent ($25) or sale ($75). But I need to know so that I can ship the appropriate number to the event.

Registration at the hotel will begin at noon. Registration at the track on Saturday will open at 7am. There is a full day of track activities scheduled, so plan to be there until 5pm. I promise you will have fun!!!

Cheers!

Tech inspections are part of any track day event...

but they do very in detail and severity. It's to make sure that everything is tight, and you aren't bringing a car that is unsafe for you, or others.

To make them go smoothly,

1) Make sure you have enough tread. No wear bars showing through.

2) Make sure you have all fluids filled up. Coolant, oil, brake fluid.

3) Make sure your wheels are tight, and there's no play in the wheel bearings.

4) Make sure you have good brake pads.

Some events require a certain helmet rating,
Some events require an in car fire extinguisher.

These are general guidlines, and be sure to check the specific rules for whatever event you are going to!
