Reliability is the guestion? One would think the new MINI is a lot more reliable than a Porsche 944 - go for the MINI and live life , have fun motoring

The only problem I have had with my MINI is it has made me hate all other cars because it handles so well!!

I picked mine up Sept 1, now have over 12,000 miles and never had to take it to the dealership once. If someone has a prob. with that car they will post. Compare that w/ the # that dont!
Someone said they were upset about a transmission problem. Actually the time to have a Transmission is while its under warranty because for one, the dealership will do a better job at installing it than a assembly line will, and it's covered!

>>yeah thats exactly the way i feel, thats why i started that thread "nice car but wont go far"
>>I needed some more info on what people thought about it, because most of the stuff i read were
>>all negative. What i really can't understand is how can some people be on there 4 or 7 expansion tank and say we love our mini.??? to me that just doesn't sound right???
>>Looking more and more into the problems of this car, you kinda wonder how it even made it on the road?? i think alot of it had to do with the looks of it, but mechanically its just not all there. I can understand how badly people would want this car, because iam one of them, but i think you have to ask yourself.. at what cost??? because if it wasn't for this warranty i think alot of people would be broke. So i brought up the concern that if this is happening at an early milage, whats going to happen later on when the warranty ends??

i think now you're just looking for reasons to not like the mini. if youre all psycho about warranties go get a kia they have a 10 year warranty... see how reliable that is...

first of all do you guys listen to yourselves??? I have window stress cracks, transmission problems, linkage problems, seat lever problems, expansion tank problems, rattling problems, trunk release problems, all sorts of other electrical problems, starting problems, fuel pump problems,.... yet i love my mini! ???????
don''t tell me about being crazy about warranty, if it wasn't for that i think you probably would be in the hole by now. You just might be better off with a kia!
don't buy a car just because it turns heads...

Their's people on here that see all these problems, you don't think there going to ask questions on this???

As for looking for excusses to not by the mini...... please.
i was holding the 28th spot to get the cooper s. It was reading all the bad news about it that made me hold off on it.

Mister s, I don't know how you could clear things up with out acually owning a mini and driving it on a regular basis. Its not just the little repairs you bring the mini in for that concerns some of us, but the recalls as well.

If this strikes you as illogical, irrational, or just plain crazy, then I don't think you should continue to consider the MINI. The simple fact that so many people are not only discussing the niggles, quirks, and issues they experience with their MINIs, but that they continue to profess such devotion and love for their cars should speak volumes of praise. These types of comments should make one realize that the car is so wonderful in so many ways (and, contrary to your hugely mistaken notion, it is most definitely not all about looks) that a quibble here and there hardly take away from the overwhelmingly positive ownership experience. If this eludes your comprehension, then, quite frankly, I don't think you deserve a MINI. You will never see beyond the faults and therefore never be happy with it.

Oh, if you haven't already read it, I also refer you to
the thread that Mister_S had linked.

Good luck finding an automobile that satisfies you.

Oh, FYI: I thought I'd mention that I've got over 13K sMiles on my MINI, virtually trouble-free.

Korey, It's quite hard to make a nice comment to you when your answers are of an attacking nature and full of poison. Everyone is trying to explain to you that nothing is problem free and as MINI owners, these are the problems we choose to handle. People who own VWs are choosing to deal with the issues of VWs, and same for any make or model of car. In fact, it's the whole buying decision we face each and every day - appliances, computers, anything we buy always has issues - so if you don't want to deal with the issues of owning a computer then don't buy one!! but don't put down the people who do!

If you do not want to have any recalls or small problems in your life coming from a car, perhaps do not buy a car - even my best Toyota ended up having it's steering wheel recalled! there's not a car made that doesn't have recalls.

Only you can choose what issues you wish to handle in your life. If the issues of a MINI are just too much for you, THAT's OK, but please stop attacking us. If it's so bad here on MCO discussing the MINI with people who you already know REALLY like it allot, then please stay away! It's like going to the synagogue and complaining that the people there are not Catholics!

First off, I'm assuming you don't own a computer. There are lots of problems with computers new out of the box, many of which the warranty doesn't cover. A quick look at any computer newsgroup or forum will bring up lots and lots of problems some covered by a warranty some not. But judging from the large volume of problems people have reported about computers you must not have any desire to buy one yourself, and for that matter can't understand why some people are major computer geeks and their lives revolve around computers....

I'll bet you don't fly United either, you've probably been to http://www.untied.com and read all about the problems the people there have had with that airline....

As for the huge warranties on the Hyundai's and the Kia's, I hate to disappoint you but they are marketing gimmicks. Hyundai's had such a bad reputation when it came to reliability that it was seriously affecting their sales. So some marketing guru at Hyundai suggested giving the cars the "longest warranty in the business" to compensate for the crap that was rolling off their assembly lines. Kia just decided to copy them. It's something many marketing courses teach as part of their course material.

However consider this, when somebody is having a problem with their car of course they are going to post it to forum like this. They do this for several reasons, to vent, find a solution, or just share their experience with others. As disturbing as these issues are, they also make for good reading... How many people do you really think are just going to post "I love my car I haven't had any problems with it," not many 'cause it's BORING, there's nothing to comment about.

While the car looks cool, I would bet that is not the reason that those who have had problems with their car still love it despite all of its agravation. They love it because when its working its fun to drive, its handles terrific, and the car is just great to be in and around. It's not just the car either, the MINI has a great owner's community, not many cars out there can say that.

The bottom line is this though, unles you get the car you have absolutely no idea if your car will be 100% dependable with no real issues until it finally keels over and dies after 20 years and 300,000 miles or if it's going to have a reserved repair bay in your dealer's shop until you actually get the car. That's true not just for the MINI but for any car on the market.

If you want the car...buy it. Otherwise go spend your money on something else....

Just ignore people when they troll.. it makes it much better that way.. Back in the day we ignored Nolan to the point that he gave up... let's do it again...

And I would bet that the number of people that have problems with their MINI is very low in relation to the number that have not had problems.. I have an S, over 6000 miles, and no problems. So what's your point?

Ok, I talked to some of the guyz over at vwvortex.com and Jetta have there own little problems. The question is which car do I want to get? This is gonna be a had one. Spring is almost here and I have no car. Theres a 3 month wait for a MINI. Ther probable no wait on the Jetta. The insidr of a MINI is awsome compared to the plain interior of the Jetta. The outside of the MINI,... ehhh,... I dont know which looks better on the exterior. The MINI has less hp but weighs alot less then the Jetta. The MINI has SIX FRIGGIN GEARS!!!!! The mini has all this blinking **** on the inside:D I dont know which car has more interior room. The mini has all this blinking **** on the inside. The mini has F40 like handling. The Jetta,.... looks,... nice. The mini has all this blinking **** on the inside The Jetta is nice,... it's turbo charged and not exactly slow. I think the jetta is a bit more roomier on the inside then the mini. The inside of the mini is sweeeeeet. I dont know. That is what pssing through my head as we speak. Theres more but not enough time to write it all down.

AKIL,

We've had our 2003 MCS (EB/WH with sport/premium packages and leather) since mid November, and have had ZERO problems with it. Only have about 2,600 miles on "Alice" so far, but it has been afantasitc experience, all the way back to when we first went to the dealer and test drove one. See my entry in the dealer rating system under Indiana for more info. We've driven city, highway, snow, high winds, etc.... and the car has handled great and performed better than expected. Keep in mind this car was essentially re-built from scratch by BMW, and there are bound to be some kinks to work out. I'm sure every "new" model has gone thru the same issues over time.

If your looking at all around interior room, the Jetta's got more of it. The MINI has a butthair's more room than the Bug.

GOD, Jetta's are blowing ignition packs all over the place!!!!! Alot of the owners wont drive far because. The Jetta has an ignition coil for each cylinder. You blow one and you loosea cylinder. I think I'll stick with the mini.

In response to Korey's post:
My last vehicle was a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was a lease - thank goodness. List of problems I can remember off-hand: alarm stopped working for no apparent reason, went to my car one early morning and found the driver side window completely down???, radio would get staticky everytime a door opened, the emergency brake light would come on whenever, the car consistently pulled to the right from the day I brought it home until the day I returned it, too many electrical issues to mention..............Service dept. was able to fix alarm and window and that was about it. No vehicle is perfect. BTW, I'd like to think I'm a bit more sophisticated of a buyer than to simply purchase a vehicle for looks. IMHO, so are most of the other members on this site.

One more thing Korey. IMHO, this site should not be treated as a representation of ALL MINI owners & their experiences. It's a repository for MINI owners and prospective owners to share experiences, ideas, comraderie. We all know when people have a bad experience at a restaurant, business, flight, etc... they'll tell a busload of people about it. When they have a good experience the percentage of people they tell is much, much smaller.

I say to suck in all the information that you can, and be thankful that these message boards exist where actual owners can relate actual experiences.

I would only say don't go by blind ratings such as MSNs Carpoint. Go to owners sites, call up dealers (any dealer, not just near you), maybe spot a MINI and chat with the owner, or wait a couple of years for Consumer Reports

1. AKIL: "Turbo Schmurbo". My boyfriend has a Jetta Wolfsberg and the whine from his turbo charger is downright emasculating in it's nonexistance. In fact, as I've never actually been able to pick up on it, I think he may be lying. I don't think it makes noise. Now, I may be biased, but my supercharger asserts it's existence in a MOST pleasant manner regarding both tone and the all important acceleration... If you do go with the MINI, I hope you have a good run.

2. KOREY: << first of all do you guys listen to yourselves??? Congratulations, you have enumerated some of the most common complains of--and pay attention to this--NUMEROUS OWNERS. It's not like every other person posting has every single one of these problems. These cars arent rolling off the line, little death-trap problemmobiles. Some of them have some problems, all of them emphatically do NOT have all of the problems, as you seem to believe. I'm with most other people: you probably just dont want a MINI--or you're a bitter, joyless person (but since I don't know you I'll give you the benefit of the doubt). If you don't like the car, that's your bag, baby. But don't come around here trying to convince us that we're naive money-wasters.

Cheerfully, despite appearances,
~Kelley

Korey...sheesh! If you don't want a MINI don't buy one. Have a nice life...bye.

Akil: I was considering the Jetta too. But when I saw the MINI it was love at first sight and there was no going back. Good luck with your decision. They are both great cars!

I did have one problem with my MINI. I bumped it into another car's bumper, I put a dent in it, and tore off the wheel well. My dealer had it fixzed and back to 100% perfect in 2 hours, and they hand washed it for me!!! They gave me a car to drive while I was waiting. I could not be happier!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...my MINI is perfect!

However, I'm fairly certain that the VW Bug does not have back seats that lay flat and a hatch boot door. I can go to my local wholesale store (COSTCO) and get several 12 packs of paper towels with my MINI. Not so with the Bug.

I'll say this. I've had my share of problems. My girl is at about 9,000 miles and so far I've had a problem with my control modual (in the shop for a week) the throttle (loose connection-2 days in the shop) and a cracked windshield. And you know what....I wouldn't trade my MINI for a million dollars. I LOVE IT! I will always love it. It could be in the shop once a month and I would still love it. That's the thing. When you are a MINI lover and have the obsession for this car, anything will go wrong and you won't care! With a new car like the MINI, there are bound to be some bugs in the first few years. Believe me....well worth it!!!!

It's the "thang" with character that allways get's kicked unless your one of those people that recognize it's character to be the very reason to enjoy it's company.

Problem with the Mini really is that at the tollbooths, I allways get held up with the attendant asking me all those questions about my car ... sucks, right? lol
