Do you have the LSD- does it happen when you turn? If so, search for lots of discussion of this sound. I recently was in an 06 JCW and it grind-ed away just like mine does (05 MCS) so I conclude, based on a large sample of 2, that it's normal--or at least survivable.

I had a similar noise happening in my car. At first the tech said it was just wheel noise. I told him that I just got new wheels on the car and even the older wheels made the same noise (a sort of rhythmic droning).
Well they took a longer look at it and end up replacing the driver's side hub assembly. Part #7 on this page

sounds like your right CV joint's going bad...but it wouldn't necessarily limit itself to right turns...Check your CV boot to make sure it isn't ripped or anything on the right half shaft. It's the rubber boot by the transmission
OR...
, if the grinding sound seems to come from a certain side and it sounds like metal on metal, it could be a heat warped brake dust shield behind your rotor; that's what I experienced last summer. If so, just bend it back with a screwdriver or something similar (sorry Onasled, Tuls, Webb Motorsports, Helix, Detroit Tuned, or any other expert, if that isnt the proper explanation on how to fix it but that's what I did. Of course feel free to correct me if needed

I don't know what model you have but my '06 MCS makes a noise at low turning speeds.
This is due to the independent power steering pump motor, you only hear it at low speeds while turning...very common!
