About a month ago
same ad on CRAIGSLIST

My son and I had numerious emails back and forth.
When we spoke to him he said the car was here in the states and he was in Europe.
After the vin # check and car fax. He wanted a deposit to be sure that he was coming to sell for real. First the FULL amount all the way to $5000 paid to some wire transfer / payment kind of outfit (said western Union)

I called the Western Union info right off the emails with all the account #s etc. that he sent !!!
They were FAKE the $ would go right to him.
When we emailed again we asked for a phone # "the english phone syetem is really bad ... I'm getting new lines" waes a story

Same car same photos.

My poor son at first was trying to surprise me by buying a MINI.

Lucky we really looked into it.

Maybe a different scam this time but...
IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE .. IT PROBABLY IS

I would love to find a way to scam the scammers, I'll give the $ to charity

On Ebay same thing,5000 for a 2003,Ebay had already canceled him.Checked other items for sale,he had 12 similar"deals".If its too good to be true........Its a scam.Last fall ebay went after a few guys,same scam,deposit up front to hold.There was one on ebay with a scammer,someone noticed ad scammed him back.He bid 555,555,500.I got a real laugh out of that one.

 

FYI, I had a similar encounter on craigslist long time ago, here is an interesting reply from the seller, I actually asked this guy for some identification info, needless to say I never got a response.

Thank you for your interest in my Mini Cooper S. If you are interested in
buying it, please take a minute and read my terms of sale. Pics are

The price for the Mini Cooper is $12,000 (shipment and insurance charges are
included). We recently moved in Italy due to my wife's job promotion. We
just found out that we cannot register the car here, because it is an US
model and Europe regulations are different from the US ones. Also we haven't
paid yet the duties for bringing it here and if we sell it back to US there
will be no more duties to be paid. Now we have our money stucked with this
vehicle, and the low price is for a fast cash deal.

The car is like new, completely working, low miles, 2005 model, having four
more years extended warranty. It is in awesome condition and has always been
kept in a garage. It is an US model with US specs and passed the US test
emissions and it will come with all the papers (title, warranty, insurance
etc. ...). The title is CLEAR and CLEAN and you will have no problem
registering it in your state.

The shipping costs and the insurance taxes of the shipment will be down to
me and you will pay the fees related to the payment (about 5% of the total
amount).

This will be a large purchase and I suggest using a third party for this
transaction, as I want it to be as smooth as possible. Since I already have
an account with Secure Trade, we'll use them (the fees for their services
will be added to my annual membership fee). I have an insurance account of
$20,000 with them. If this is your first time using Secure Trade here are
their terms: if you will not receive the car exactly as advertised or you
won't receive it in 30 days since you made the deposit, Secure Trade will
refund you from my Secure Trade account.

I am requesting a $6,000 REFUNDABLE deposit before I start the shipping
procedures. If you are not 100% content with the car, you will ship it back
on my expense to get your deposit back. I am sure this will not happen,
because this Mini Cooper is a state of the art vehicle and you will have no
reason to reject it.

I will register the transaction with Secure Trade asap if my terms are
acceptable for you. I will need your full name, home and shipping address
for this purpose.

I love the scams where some guy agrees to buy my mom's Mini but claims to have had another deal go south and can only send me the original bank check that was issued which is more than our asking price.
