Hey guys give him a break! My parents bought me a Mini Cooper after I graduated highschool. I got good grades and worked hard in highschool. The main reason they got it was becuase I needed a new car to commute to college in, my old 67 mustang cant make it everyday.

My folks aren't wealthy but they have good jobs, Yeah people think I'm spoiled becuase they got me a new car but I help pay my monthly payments and I pay my own car insurance. I wish i had gotten an S instead but they were just too much, especially at the rip off dealers here in So Cal. Man I wish I had my mini when I was still in high school

MOTOR ON!!!

How is it that one can achieve good grades in English without being able to spell? It must be the left coast education system.

Ahhh.. yet another reason I cringe when I hear about someone's parents buying them a MINI...

Touche Sirron.

All the same I think some of you are giving the kid a hard time. I agree with some of the postings - not being experienced enough etc., but no matter what he is a fellow motorer whether he paid for it himself or not, and we need to accept him into the fold. How are we supposed to learn from each other if people are afraid to post with the assumption they will be judged by people who don't really know them or their situations.

He came here to ask a question looking for educated input, and instead he gets a lot of ribbing.

Some advice for you Jnlech. The next time you have a question, ask your question without all the personal data. You really opened yourself up to all this crap.

My two cents.

My opinion on your question being a Cooper owner is that I do believe that it was wasted money. You should have done more research on the pros and cons of the S before actually making the trade. Anyone here or in the many online reviews could have told you that the 17s give a rougher ride.

The Cooper was enough more me, and I do have a lead foot, but I know what I wanted and I did the research before signing my name.

Enjoy the S forget the choice you have made. Either way you have a damn fun car. Good Luck

MOTOR ON.

Lolo

mind reeling....... less than a year, new S...16.... practice on ranch..... collector 69 Porsche (seriously, was your father ill at the time???)....parents who did not beat the ever-living snot out of you when you suggested the trade up...reward for good grades.....in english........

You're either QUITE fortunate or you've a fabulous imagination in that young little head of yours!

All ribbing aside--though I generally agree with it--just enjoy the heck out of your car and, as has been previously stated, forget about the choice: 1. it's done, and 2. if you determine you've made a poor decision I'm sure your parents won't mind getting you a new one!

Slightly older, far wiser, and considerably more cynical,

According to his post he's a good driver, he learned on an old Porsche!

Do you really think that? There have been many other threads about the whole Cooper/Cooper S debate. I hope he learned a few things from his ribbing and didn't just write it off as people just being mean.
A few tips for ya:
1. It's "you are" not ur... this is really obnoxious.
2. Typing in all caps means you are SCREAMING!! If you want to emphasize something use the buttons at the bottom to change your text to italics or Bold.
3. Just because you learned on Porsche (on a ranch no less) doesn't mean you know how to drive. If you really want to learn how to drive take a driving course. (Not the one offered by your high school but one done on a racetrack that teaches you vehicle dynamics)
4. Driving a truck does not make you a redneck, the gunrack in your truck however... (Also if you marry your cousin or sister it's another good indicator) Driving a truck teaches you to drive a vehicle that handles poorly. In doing so you can then jump in your MINI Cooper S and apreciate it.
5. It's a supercharger, not a turbocharger... there is a difference and if you would have done your homework before getting the S you would realize this.
6. The educational system in "Anderson, SC" is in bad shape if this kid get's good grades... unless he never graduated 5th grade. (sorry, could resist one more good ribbing)

Why do you need the validation of others over your choice of car? Also why complain about the handling aspects of the car, didn't you test drive it? In fact I would almost be willing to bet money that the reason you got the S is because someone made fun of you for not getting it. (or you just wanted bragging rights) When I was 16 I would have been happy with any car my parents gave me. I would have been trilled if they got me a MINI Cooper (which wasn't around of course... unless you count the older, hard to find ones). Drive it, have fun but be careful... I don't want to see anyone get hurt. I've seen a lot of (affordable) sports cars on the side of the road, in the median etc... flipped. Why? Because the person didn't know how to drive and it was too much car for them. Overall have fun, no want means any harm by their posts and you really opened yourself up to it.
