I too just spec'ed an MCS, and if it weren't $200, i would have gotten the anthracite headliner, i wish they had more pictures in the brochure.

Also would have gotten the space cloth. Maybe if they had the space cloth, I would have gotten the headliner, cuz now I'm gonna end up spending the 200 on wet okele's.

Yes but that is the widely believed reason behind the closing.

Wasn't that the reason there was a shortage on H/K parts last year? Hmm... starting to sound like a racket

I have the grey headliner. I'm also a fan of the light airy feeling it gives the interior. If it had been a free pick either color, like it should be well then maybe. That $200 up charge is ridiculous. Besides the grey matches my whiskers.

All this talk of dirt on the gray headliner...sounds like "Footprints on the Ceiling" to me.

I first saw the word Anthracite long after order was placed, after all it wasn't that noticable in miniusa's builder site, does anyone have side by side pictures of these color? Is standard headliner a bad fit for piano black?

you A-holes (a stands for anthracite) are taking over!

But correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the majesty that is "anthracite headliner" really just basically black? Maybe it's from years of living with GM vehicles and reading the criticism that they have "bland dark monotone interiors", but I think a two-tone interior is nice. I like it. Makes me feel special and such. Reminds me that my car is from a different country and all. My car just doesn't have the attitude that goes with an all black interior. My car definitely has gray pride--It says "I'm here, I'm pepper white, my headliner is gray, and I'm loving every minute of it!" As a matter of fact, I'm going to start telling MINI-ignorant strangers that I paid $600 extra to get the Venetian Ash headliner.

Anyway, my point wasn't to say I dislike the darkness, I just wanted some love for the gray, and I think I got oh maybe a grand total of 2 people to agree! Woo hoo!

Gray Pride, now that's a good one!

Very funny

My car interior is two tone too - black and blue, guess its bruising for a cruising (or something like that :P)

I have the light gray headliner. I like the lighter colors...feels more open to me.

I also have the Alloy Patina dash. I think it looks pretty good, but it always gets a bad rap.

My vote goes to the gray headliner too -- it keeps the interior bright and light!

I've had several cars with light headliners and never had a problem with them getting dirty... it's the ceiling - what are you doing touching the ceiling anyway???

My DS/DS MCS has an anthracite dash and headliner......very nice.

The grey headliner needs more work to keep it looking good, don't know if it's the material or the colour. Mind you with the right colour combo it can look good.

I haven't had any trouble w/ my light grey headliner keeping clean...I like it. It keeps the interior nice and bright.

Interesting phenomenon: whenever a new option becomes available folks tend to jump all over it, which is great. Be it the anthracite headliner, the body-colored dash, or the chrome-line interior, they are all good options (added to the line-up for a reason) but there does naturally tend to be a feeding frenzy when these first appear. They're "all that" for awhile...."gotta have it" kinda stuff!!!

It's interesting though to step back from all that for awhile. I have an "old school" silver dash w/ an "old school" light grey headliner. The contrast and softness of the interior is very, very nice. With a newer, darker-themed interior (either anthracite or even certain body-colors) the bling of the chrome might be needed to make things pop, but the overall effect of the early silver trim is quite pleasant in a different way. It's all a matter of what you, the owner, want.

My point is that sometimes we choose options because they're available and we can't help ourselves. Fine. But sometimes using restraint can actually bring about equally pleasing results. I mean, who would realisically choose the basic, original finishes for an '02 MINI given all the options currently available now in '06?? I would...and why not? The early finishes do look good. I think they are quite worthy of choice. In the case of my own MINI, I suppose I've come full circle to find a new appreciation of (and preference for) those early finishes.

But make no mistake, as an enthusiast, I love all the new stuff, too!

I prefer the darker blending of the anthracite interior... When I saw an interior that had the combo of dark and light, it just didn't look right to me... it was as if I were looking at a replacement interior against the dark dash.
But the outside was still gorgeous 'cause it's a MINI!
To each his own I say.
I have the anthracite, BTW. :-)

We have the anthracite dash with the basic (off white) headliner, and it would be nice to have the anthracite headliner--might look better. But we decided it was not worth $200 as an option (like it costs them more to make than the other color!).

So, just say NO to premium priced options that should have no cost.

well, not that i like this fact, pricing is not always about cost, it's about perceived value. and some of us percieve that is does have value and some of us don't!

i tend to look at is as how much does it cost me over the time i'm going to own my car and as i have my next MINI configured it will be a difference of about $3 a month to have what i want (which is the anthracite headliner).

I had an '02 ds/w with alloy patina dash, gray headliner (only choice) and black leather seats. On Friday I'll be picking up my '06 ds/ds with silver dash for which once again I selected the gray headliner along with black leather seats.

I like contrast and in '02 this was focused on the exterior while in '06 it's focused on the interior. This time I wanted an even lighter and brighter interior to balance the darker exterior.

I think it completely depends on the rest of the interior. I have a hyper blue dash, chromeline interior, a solid lid and grey leatherette... I guess anthracite would look good, but the light grey just gives me the sense that my little guy is even more playful than the 'serious' tone of the anthracite. now if I had a darker interior it might be an even harder decision.

Yup, depends on the rest of the interior... I went with black leatherette seats, anthracite headliner & all anthracite everything. I've got the sunroof & my windows aren't tinted, so enough light gets in that I never get the sense that it's too dark. I wanted a sporty & aggressive & mean look, and in that context the light grey headliner would have looked silly. But I can see the appeal if someone were going for a different look with silver or body-color dash, etc.

I also went for the gray headliner due to the extra cost of the Anthracite one... I kinda liked the Anthracite one, but the it is a little dark (my interior is already going to be pretty dark, with anthracite dash and black leather)...

I have a grey headliner and like it alot. I felt the anthracite made the interior too dark for me as I like light (4 years in submarines means I like to have windows and openness...). The outside is already subtle as one of the few all space blue cars (most get the silver roof) so the only contrast is in the interior. I feel the outside is classier without the contrast. Really though, it was the brightness/light that pulled me to the grey headliner. Saved $200 even!
